Dark shows every speck of dust. It looks great but the few people that I know who have it regret the choice (particularly because most dogs seem to shed a white undercoat). If you have back or hip issues you may want to reconsider how hard (and cold) tile is. If you really want the wood look you can shop around some more and you'll see that tile comes in planks that look like hardwood. Tile weighs a lot more, I would educate myself on the underfloor requirements before proceeding with any flooring.

What practigal said. We are doing black lowers and white uppers. My designer had chosen some dark grey cork for the floor and I changed it to white. I also think the darker bottom cabs will look better against a light floor. The other thing to consider is your counter. To me, the counter should relate to the floor. Either be the same, or the inverse, but relate.

I like edenaurora's wood look tile-might try even a little warmer shade. I'd stick with medium....[not super dark tone ] to play with the dark gray base cabinets. Too dark a floor presents maintenance issues and very light presents contrast. To me, the nice thing about dark grey base cabs is that they will recede into being a neutral palette/backdrop.....so you want a floor that plays along...you could go with taupe- or some wood tones present....but with the same intensity of shading. I don't think it has to be strictly a gray tone. They have resilient products of all sorts now-vinyl planks/etc. Tile is for some folk--way too hard for myself and others.

I'd also stick with medium, but I'd also consider how difficult it is to replace tile down the road. I might go for vinyl or linoleum. (We have oak floors, they were very dark color when we moved in and it did show every speck of dust. We had them refinished to a medium stain - a combination of coffee and rosewood - and they hardly show anything now. Our bottom cabinets are very similar to edenaurora's floor, and the uppers are white.

I think wood or a wood look floor would warm up your grey/white kitchen.

Our floors are a dark warm walnut. I expected to see every speck of dust but it's not an issue. I don't do any more sweeping or dustmopping than I did with our previous light oak floors. Maybe it's because they are not a solid colored dark floor. There is quite a bit of variation from plank to plank. I always read "don't do dark floors." I'd say don't do really dark solid colored floors.

But then there's Martastoo's kitchen, one of my favorites.

I think romy's got it. You can do dark, just not solid and dark.
