White floors w/gray walls, or gray floors w/white walls?
My bathroom is in desperate need of refreshing, but don't have the money for a full redo. I'm going to use the Rust-Oleum home floor paint system. Trying to decide on which way to go with the colors on floor and walls. I will be taking down the large vanity mirror and doing two individual mirrors with the stenciled background like the photo.

Comments (8)I am not a designer and am just a person with an opinion. I like any of the three floor patterns, but each has a different “vibe.” The stacked one is very modern. The running bond (yes, 50/50 staggered) is classic, but in a large format tile it will seem modern, too. The horizontal/vertical layout resembles a zig-zag a bit and I think it can break up the length, but at 7 ft wide and with fixtures like a vanity and tub, I wonder if the pattern will look apparent or simply random in your bathroom. You may want to get some graph paper, draw the floor of the room with the fixtures in place, then “lay out” your “tile” on the drawing’s floor to see where the individual tiles will go and if you like the pattern it makes. Try starting the layout of the tile from both ends and see if it makes a difference. Don’t bother with spacing in grout lines, just draw each individual tile. See what the floor would look like. I agree that a simple white counter will be best. Or gray. But look for solid color or minimal veins so that you do not have to compete with patterns elsewhere....See MoreWhat white wall color compliments grey finished concrete floors?

Comments (5)Thank you for your response! I agree that cabinet color is too pink. The photo of my wood floor is not capturing the color correctly (it looks yellow in the photo when in person it is a lighter tan color (with dark variations). I have considered and swatched many different colors (navy, olive green, mustard yellow) but ultimately wanted to bring in more light since it is north facing with no windows. I am keeping the hood vent and open shelving unpainted since they match the flooring so well and I love the earthy element. Any other color you might suggest?...See MoreRelated Professionals

2 years agoMaybe just consider doing a refresh.
For a relatively cost effective, plus easy approach - I would suggest just putting down a piece of sheet linoleum or vinyl, over the existing tile. You won’t have to rip out the tile, and you can bring in any color/pattern you want. And btw, this type of sheet flooring has come a long way; many attractive options. You could do one that simulates a white tile floor. I also like some of the wood looks and terrazzo looks. Your bathroom floor area is relatively small, so this should be a fairly easy and inexpensive option.
Change out the vanity lights. Lots of ways you can go with that, finish and style-wise; and I think that single change could really make a significant difference in the space.
You can go ahead and paint the walls, and maybe also change the faucets..
These small changes will fairly easily create a new room; and this could hold you over temporarily - or permanently.

Seeing your bedroom and its cool neutrals, consider lighter finish for door handles. Choose lighting that makes it special to you. Runner over the floor. Just idea to blend chrome shower, etc... with dressy rooms -

How about shower/lighting/mirror are 'cool' // then faucet/ handles 'warm' along with warm floor.
