Front entry needs a curb appeal makeover!
Comments (6)Consider creating a monarch station, maybe in a raised round or contoured bed made of the same kind of bricks that are on your house. There's an organization called monarchwatch.com. You might check it out. Maybe you could line the driveway somehow, with a garden bed or hedge. I think your yard would benefit from more curved shapes. Another thing you might do is to create a small grove of river birch. They are so pretty, and the colors of their bark would blend so attractively with your house. I've seen them in beds toward the front of the yards, along with natural-looking shrubs and flowers. Beautiful. The main thing I would recommend for your yard is to minimize the grass. Not only do lawns use a lot of water, take a lot of work and expense, but a large lawn, in my opinion, is monotonous. And replacing lawn is much better for the environment and the other plantings attract birds, squirrels, and so on....See MoreSo Cal shady front entry needs help!
Comments (15)Yes...Nandina and not really a bamboo but an evergreen shrub. The berries are supposed to be toxic from what I remember. I've often thought about clipping some leaves/berries for display but no thanks! Too bad since the berries on ours are orange during the fall and red at Christmas. We have 8 HB shrubs that are all in mostly shade or filtered light. Found this photo and other info online... "All parts of the plant are poisonous, containing compounds that decompose to produce hydrogen cyanide, and could potentially be fatal if ingested. The plant is placed in Toxicity Category 4, the category "generally considered non-toxic to humans", but the berries are considered toxic to cats and grazing animals. Excessive consumption of the berries will kill birds such as cedar waxwings, because they are subject to cyanide toxicosis, resulting in death to multiple individuals at one time. The berries also contain alkaloids such as nantenine, which is used in scientific research as an antidote to MDMA (ecstasy)."...See MoreNEED HELP with how to COZY UP FRONT ENTRY & PORCH AREA
Comments (2)No on the window because, IMO, it is too shabby chic for you home…lovely, by the way. Indoor/outdoor runner up to front door; rattan furniture, all working with a new front door color. Suggesting B.M. Somerville Red for the door AND the storm door. Art, instead of the window, your choice, of course, this is from greatbigcanvas.com region Florida. Out door sofa (love the look) and indoor/outdoor runner are from all modern.com. The faux croc pillow cover is from etsy.com. Instead of 2 18 x 18’s, I think three lumbars would work out better. Couple of garden stools in white. These are from Hayneedle. Add perennial climbing vines on the columns. Would ever consider painting the columns black?...See MoreNeed Advice on Console table for front entry
Comments (14)This may be more work than you want. Is the door to the right of the table the entrance? If so, I would put in a larger hanging light. The one you have gets lost. Also, it should be centered on the wall where the console table is, unless it is lining up with a light over your dining table. If it is centered, then you might be able to hang it lower with the open door hitting it. But these are really just minor changes to what is already a lovely room....See MoreFirst Time Build
