I see that table working between a pair of chairs or possibly as an end table -- it's not something to be standing out in the middle of the room on its own. The top should be mostly clear as a place to set a drink, books, etc. The center is a place to display items. I would treat it as a library table with stacks of books and/or books with bookends, sitting next to a comfy reading chair or between a pair of chairs. If you do any needlework, a basket with yarn or a project in progress might be nice.

But I’m remembering that the table’s been very useful when we have visitors for platters of appetizers, etc. but I suppose I could borrow a table from another room.

At 28” it’s too tall to work well as a side table (for me, but I don’t like reaching up). The main problem is that it’s ugly.

If you think it's ugly, you should just get rid of it. Someone will love it. If it makes sense to have a table there when you're entertaining, borrow a table from somewhere else for parties, or just get a cheap folding table and a nice tablecloth that comes out for events.

You have a charming and welcoming room and I don't see anything else that needs replacing but of course that's your choice. I can see that it would be difficult to find a proper spot for this rather unusual table. I would just leave that space bare so the room can breathe and you can fully enjoy that beautiful rug; I love all of yours.

I'm not familiar with radiators, but if I had one, I would want to cover it with something to give you a flat surface like a table. Is that possible?

My philosophy is that you have one home, you spend so much of your life in there, and there is no reason to have anything in your home that you don't love or that doesn't make your life easier. If you don't love the table and if it doesn't help you out much, there is no reason to have it. Don't let it take up precious space in your home. I would get rid of the table.

The table looks lost there, but that doesn't mean that you need to get rid of it. Can you move it and call it into action when needed?

You have a cozy room with furniture in it's rightful place, except for the round table. Create a more open space by de-cluttering and making room for walkway. You could add a small drinking stand by the wing chair for a cozier setting. Overall, less is more. Group paintings together in a collage format if they are different sizes to delcutter your walls. Naturally people tend to think if a wall is empty, they force it by hanging something too small. The eye naturally draws to negative space:) hope that helps!

Becky and Ingrid you are too kind. I think the room, maybe because of the rugs, looks much better in person. I wish you could go shopping with me here on the East Coast :)

Carrie- I would get rid of this table in a heartbeat. I am in the market for some other stands, tables, lamps, etc so I plan to hit some estate sales this month. I wanted to get some opinions so I could keep my eye out for what I need.

Lars- you can get new or salvaged covers for the radiators, but my husband is bothered that they block the heat. I’ve seen people use slabs of marble to make a nice shelf. I like that look - it’s nice for heat- loving plants, but we have porches both front and back AND mature trees so it’s kinda dark in here. There’s another one in the back of the room. My cats have loved them (hot water, not steam) and they are good for warming bread dough, but not much else.

If you really don't like the table, let it go.

I don't think you need a table there -- to me, it looks out of place. And if you don't like it, just get rid of it. BTW, I like your space!

I love it all - your table, your rugs, your chair, your lamps! I was feeling a little down with my very trad room and you've reminded me of why I love traditional. Sorry, I haven't helped you (but you have made me feel much better).

You’ve made me feel better too decordummy. I really like modern design, and fully understand that form should follow function, but at the end of the day I need cozy!
