New Kitchen Advice
Comments (2)Just saw your post popped up on the first page and hadn't seen it before. If you really have been waiting since Sunday, it seems the forum posting is messed up. You're on the right track with marble and subway tile, that always looks good. Just do your research here to make sure you can live with it. For resale, you'll have to ask around for opinions in your area. If the cabinets are white, cream might not look good with them. You'll have to test some and see because one or the other could end up looking off. The same with cream paint. Be sure to check your sink cabinet to see if it can be retrofit for an apron sink....See MoreNew Homeowners Looking For Kitchen Advice
Comments (8)Really cool house, and what a fun project! I took a chance and bought used off of Craigslist, but I got an insane deal. All Thermador and stainless, 30" double oven (convection on top), 36" gas cooktop, and hood for $700. For everything. Only a few years old (the woman was upgrading to Wolf and Subzero for her kitchen and just wanted the stuff gone). I was able to play with the appliances while they were still installed in her kitchen, and knew they worked. Buying from a family friend would give me similar reassurance. If you like the appliances, I think it's a smart move. The only one that gives me pause is the dishwasher. Maybe I've just been unlucky, but dishwashers don't seem to have a life much past 10 years. And if it fails, you'll potentially be dealing with water damage to your lovely new kitchen....See MoreLooking for kitchen layout advice....
Comments (17)With a large family I think it would be better to have a second sink in the kitchen, so I'd go with option 2 with some tweaking. I'd void the corner (or if possible use it from the other side) and have the DW b/w the sink and the fridge. On the other side of the sink you can have narrow open shelves for cutting boards, like this. Next to the tall window you can consider a hutch like cab for pantry storage. You can have textured glass fronts (or maybe on the sides too). If you have room on the other side of the tall window, a shallow cab can be quite useful....See MoreNew build - looking for kitchen layout advice
Comments (22)What would be the view if you added windows- something worth looking at? Or is the reason there are no windows is that you don't want to see that area? Which way does the sun come in? Are those windows or doors on the range wall? If they are doors, are they going to be used a lot-are people going to be walking through the area there to get some other part of the house on a regular basis?...See MoreStacy Salinas
