Old post but I have a similar issue. We bought a house with a bridge faucet (so just two holes in the marble top.) The faucet is now leaking and can't be fixed. To replace it, bridge faucets START at $350 and go up from there to the $1000 price range. We also have another sink on the other side of the bathroom, so if you replace one that will be roughly $400-$700, we probably should replace the other. The second option is to drill a third hole, for a standard wide spread set up. But for a third and budget option, I was looking at some single hole faucets, and putting a soap dispenser on the second hole. I am assuming you would put the water faucet on the left hole, and soap on the right (that is what comes to mind for a right handed person) but I am not sure. This is a home we will move from in about 3 years give or take. Trying to think budget, aesthetics, and function. And would a home buyer think "what the heck?" or say "awesome." You cannot see the other vanity area as the shower and toilet area are in the middle of the bathroom, so I am thinking I can have one faucet on one, and another set up on the other, as long as they are in the same bronze family and similar style (these have an old vintage look to them.) Thoughts?

Hi may_flowers, I barely manage with my 24" sink. I put in the new faucet a year or two ago when my old one died, and at the same time I put in a new, stainless steel, drop-in sink to replace the original 1956 porcelain / cast iron one, plus a new garbage disposal. But I didn't replace any cabinets, so I couldn't put in a larger sink. I'm looking forward to putting a big Blanco Supersingle sink in my new house. :-) In hindsight, I should have done more. At the time I wasn't sure if I was going to remodel the house or sell it, so I just wanted something to tide me over. But now I may have to do a cheapo kitchen remodel to make it easier to sell this place once the new one is finished. Right now it mostly has the original 1956 kitchen, including an oven that looks like it came from the set of "Back to the Future". The rest of the old house is great, though. Laura

On a day to day basis, I much prefer a one handle faucet. Before I changed my countertops I noticed my sister's sink had a lot of water around the faucet - and running down the island countertop (her sink is in her island.) She now keeps a small towel there to catch the water, but this water comes from her wet hands turning the water on an off. She actually has a single handle, but I figured it would be twice as bad with two. Several years ago my kitchen faucet died, and I bought a home center Delta to get me by for a while. The faucet looked sad after a year - the faux chrome peeling off. Surprisingly, the faucet, even with the plastic parts, lasted many years till I could change out my counters. It wasn't great, but it worked, did not drip or leak. I am not recommending plastic parts by any means, but a good name brand bought at a plumb supply shop or ordered through a reputable online company should last many years. (Some name brands like Delta also make "home center price faucets" and these are mostly plastic and not recommended.) Generally, there is a standard width from faucet to handle which makes replacing faucets easier - but I agree, a single handle is a safe way to go. I do really like my bathroom delta faucets - most over 15 years old. However, my Delta replacement cartridges, which are easy to change out, have not lasted as long as the original cartridges.

I ended up here, because I'm redoing my kitchen and trying to make a decision about the faucet. I have various faucets throughout my house from Kohler, Moen, Restoration Hardware, and Newport Brass. I think the Restoration Hardware fixtures are made by Newport Brass, because we had to call them when we needed to replace. We've had them from 10-12 years, so I don't know the styles or even if they are made. Almost all are polished nickel, and the Kohler and Moen are always spotless, laundry room and bathroom, respectively. I'm not crazy about the pull down sprayer on the Kohler. The Moen Showcase (do they still make this line?) is in the bathroom, and I love it so much, because I can just pour water over it and it will dry spotless. It's amazing. It is wall mount, and I wish I had it in every bathroom. Because of my success with Moen, when I needed a faucet for my kitchen, I bought an inexpensive (relative to all the other faucets I have) Moen at Home Depot. It is the only non polished nickel faucet I have. It is stainless steel, still looks brand new (10 years+), and the pull down sprayer works wonderfully. Unfortunately, I'd never buy fixtures from Restoration Hardware again. They spot like crazy. The Newport Brass are slightly better, but they also spot. I'm looking at Kohler and Moen for my new kitchen, but the choices are limited in polished nickel. Now I'll look at California Faucets, too, but I'll skip Rohl, since someone mentioned the polished nickel spots so much.
