Three holes for single-hole faucet! Options?
Comments (5)As others mentioned, I would either have them replace the piece or find a new faucet (at their cost maybe?). Since it is not a natural material, you won't be losing anything with a new piece. I would not be willing to live with something that looks like a retrofit just for a discount....See MoreAre faucet, soap and air switch holes universal?
Comments (7)I think they are close but not identical. I recently ordered a custom stainless countertop and their standard size hole, unless you specify otherwise, is 1 3/8". On efaucets or a similar site where you can look at specs (availabilty is spotty) I saw that one Elkay faucet requires that size hole. The Grohe Ladylux faucet I purchased due to GW resounding endorsements needs 1 1/4" opening in the countertop. But larger is ok because the finished sheath that covers the actual plumbing has a much wider diameter. Soap dispensers, being smaller overall, have less tolerance. It looks like I may need to use the flange that comes with the dispenser, because the pump unit may not completely cover the hole. Countertop with "standard" 1 3/8" holes is being installed on Wednesday. I can let you know what happens. Good on you to be thinking about this now so you can give your countertop fabricator the specs. I worked out the water flow radius to get the stream and drain locations, but forgot about the hole size. Hope I'm not disappointed....See More2 faucets and a soap dispenser - D bowl sink
Comments (11)Actually, there are many design principles which prefer odd numbers. Three is fine! I'm not big on soap dispensers. I hardly ever used mine in the old kitchen and didn't put one in the new (I like the bottle), but I think in the middle would both look funny and be really inconvenient. It should look fine paired with one of the faucets. Ideally, for looks, I'd like to see it with the smaller faucet. Put the larger faucet on the center line (the diagonal from the opposite corner like Buehl's). Pair the other two, and have them equidistance from the center line on their corner. And I'd put the soap in front of (which is also on the outside of) the faucet it's with to make a low, medium, high progression. It would look fine paired similarly with the bigger faucet if that's a lot more convenient. You just wouldn't get the nice rising levels. The tension from low across to medium and back over for high might actually be more interesting to look at, in the end. Not to worry. Just make sure the controller of the faucet isn't too close to the soap so that it isn't a pain to use. You could also, if the plumbing allowed, put the big faucet in the forward position and pair it with the subsidiary faucet and just put the soap on the other side. That might look really cool, though it might not be very convenient....See Morewhere to drill holes on granite for faucet , soap dispenser...
Comments (11)Good you remembered about cutting out the plywood underneath where the holes will be in stone, Sylvia. Your plumber will thank you!!! Faucet on 1-3/4 sink is placed centered directly above the bowls bridge divider. Soap dispenser is wherever you want, but make sure it can reach/pour into sink. Air gap (most of CA requires one) on same side where your dishwasher is is best. (I put mine in between faucet and soap dispenser.) Spacing of my 3 holes is not equal, with air gap and dispenser closer together than space from faucet to airgap. Distance of holes from edge of stone = your installers will know where to. Sink to counter front edge distance is usually 3-1/2 to 4 inches. Won't your sink opening in granite be already cut out at fab shop? Hope so - less mess and a nice finished/polished edge assured. (They cut sink cutout in plywood using in-place granite slab as pattern, then remove slab again.) Good luck to you tomorrow....See Morewilliamsem
