I need help making this sofa work for my daughter's first apartment
Comments (57)My daughter and I were out today and bought the original print fabric to make one large pillow for the sofa. She also picked out a solid color fabric in the darker green that's in the print for another slightly smaller pillow. I liked a stripe that coordinated well, but she says she wants to keep things simple. She has also decided to use the rug from IKEA. Haven't purchased it yet, tho. End tables, coffee table and lamps will be the next choices to make....See More23 year old mans first apartment need help with bedroom
Comments (7)I am assuming that you are renting and work with what is there. Does the desk need to stay in this room? Do you need such a wide spread desk or could you use one that was only on one wall or maybe only under the window? Are you open to painting that one if you need to keep it for now or should it remain as it is? (black? Think my nephew has the same one.) What other furniture do you need or want in a BR? Looks like a bed, frame and box or platform so you can get the mattress off the floor is a starting point. Do you need or want a dresser? A chair or a bench you can sit on when dressing or putting on shoes? What kind of feeling and colors appeal to you for your room? A lot of young men seem to like greys, black, red or maybe navy and naturals. Do you want something clean and tailored? Relaxed and casual? Have you seen any rooms in magazine or online that you like the look of -- if not the exact furniture or layout, the kind of colors or general styles you would like to incorporate? Sorry, no answers here, but hope these questions will help lead to info that can bring answers....See MoreFirst Apartment Living Room HELP!!!
Comments (14)So far you seem to be concentrating on cool colors and neutrals, and on cloudy/rainy/snowy days your apartment will seem rather cheerless. Introduce some warms colors, yellow and terracotta, for instance, with pillows and art. Find some very large abstract prints that have warm and cool colors both. The more wall space you can fill up with art that you love the more furnished your apartment will look even when you don't yet have all your furniture. Also, consider tribal rugs like Gabbeh (check esalerugs.com) instead of modern rugs for a more cozy and eclectic feel. You can return these rugs without charge, and you'll be able to pick pillows and other accessories using the colors taken from the rug. Make sure the rug is as large as you can afford because a larger rug will make your living area look larger and more "furnished". Don't forget books, plants and of course art to make your new home look stylish and warm. Try not to use blues and grays too much; that will just make your rooms look cold and forbidding....See MoreNeed help with my first apartment!
