I am assuming that you are renting and work with what is there.

Does the desk need to stay in this room? Do you need such a wide spread desk or could you use one that was only on one wall or maybe only under the window? Are you open to painting that one if you need to keep it for now or should it remain as it is? (black? Think my nephew has the same one.)

What other furniture do you need or want in a BR? Looks like a bed, frame and box or platform so you can get the mattress off the floor is a starting point. Do you need or want a dresser? A chair or a bench you can sit on when dressing or putting on shoes?

What kind of feeling and colors appeal to you for your room? A lot of young men seem to like greys, black, red or maybe navy and naturals. Do you want something clean and tailored? Relaxed and casual? Have you seen any rooms in magazine or online that you like the look of -- if not the exact furniture or layout, the kind of colors or general styles you would like to incorporate?

What are your inerests, your lifestyle? I think a person's room is private, should reflect their personality, hopes, dreams and goals. Where you sleep is where you heal. I like things that inspire me to be the first and last things I see. It goes into your subconscious every day.

If you work there, you should have things that represent where you want to be, symbolic of your goals. Many successful people do this intentionally or not.

Ideally, your private space is uncluttered, organised, has colors and textures you love, and lifts your spirits whenever you enter the space.

Is the floor carpeted? I can't quite tell.

For a shopping list, I'd be looking for a bed frame and headboard or a bed, maybe an area rug, a dresser, a chair, a desk lamp, and some artwork. Maybe curtains, if the desk moves out of the corner, but I kind of like the blinds.

The bigger question is style and colors, which gets us back to the questions others have asked: What do you like? Do you like the bedding color well enough to design around it, or do you want to change it up? What is the wall color in the room (the lighting in the pics isn't great and my monitor has terrible color rendering anyway)? It looks beigish in the first pic and whitish in the second. We're guessing you are a renter and paining is out, but set us straight if that is incorrect.

Are you near an IKEA? They have inexpensive beds, bedding, art, and lots of inspiration in their decorated rooms.

I would start by drawing the floor plan to scale (with dimensions on it) so that you will have a written record of the amount of space you have. It looks like you have a night stand, but you need a bed frame to get your bed high enough for it to be functional. I would want a lamp for the night stand or a torchiere with a toe switch. You might want a task lamp for your desk, and also a mat to go under your chair, if you have carpet. Don't get a plastic one, as it would wear out very quickly.

I would save window treatments for last, since you already have blinds. Curtains or drapes can make the room seem smaller, and all you really need is a valance.
