I sent you an email to whatever email address is linked here at gardenweb. One of the questions I had was in regards to the Provenza Old World Collection. That is the flooring we are thinking about. We noticed that the tung oil finish is much rougher than the urethane finishes. Have you noticed that it is more difficult to clean? We are also going to have fur babies on this floor (one of the nice things about that tung oil finish, - quick removal of scratches!), and was wondering about the fur clean up issues. I have heard that those with urethane finishes initially can't believe how much fur "floats" around, especially if they had carpet before. Now I am curious about this rougher finish. Will the fur cling to it? Is it tough to clean? I am thrilled to hear about your experience with this floor and wish you well as your finish your home. Thanks again! :)

Thanks so much for the information. I'll check out those brands, but I recall seeing a couple of them in the store. I saw Hartco in the store but it was higher priced. Also, some of them may not have had the finish I'm looking for...I'd like a finish that is somewhat shiny, not flat, and many of the floors I saw in the store only came in a flat finish. Maybe the brands you mentioned are in that category, but I'll check. I am working with a knowledgeable salesperson at a local store, and she seems to have a wide range of products and is showing them all to me, but I'll also check your website. You are looking for a company that manufactures the same species/finish in both engineered AND solid. These are NOT found using the big box stores nor the mass producers such as Bruce, etc. You are on the Eastern Seaboard. Excellent! That's where ALL the great mills are. You need to google/search for hardwood floor mill. You will come up with thousands of options. Go ahead and start looking at the one's closest to you. They will offer samples (either free or for small money) as well as a list of their retailers. Because you are looking at a match (ie. NO ONE can tell the difference but you!) you are going to pay more for that quality. I would expect $9-$12/sf depending on the cut, species, thickness and finish/stain. I know how to find them in Canada...it will be up to you to find it in/around PA.
