Narrow laundry room - help needed (pics)
Comments (12)That's why I only suggested it as 18" deep. I think the one in the pic looks like it's 24" deep but given how close to the doors I was suggesting for its placement, I think you'd need to go shallower or it would become a log jam area and I get the impression you're trying to correct the one you've got. ;-) Anyhoo, you should have a 43" aisle, allowing 12" for coats and hooks on one wall and 18" mudroom bench cab on the other. Just watch the aisle width close to the doors so you don't end up too tight there. Another alternative is to go with a 24" deep mudroom cab (37" aisle) and step it down to 18" as you get near the doorways. You could stack your washer and dryer on the window wall, facing the length of the room with the sink next to it under the window with cabs above W/D and window. You could run a clothes rod above the sink (this is the location I've seen suggested for hanging drip dry garments). That does put it in front of the window but that might be okay since it's temporary. If you go with a cabinet and sink instead of the stand alone wash tub, you can run ducting under the cabinet and install a vent in the toe kick of the sink cab (this is what we have in our laundry room). I think you'd want to leave at least 3' in front of the W/D so that you have room to load/unload without running into something. Then hooks on the garage wall and 18" deep mudroom cabs on the opposite wall. I have a narrow-ish, overworked laundry room/mudroom, too, so I empathize with your situation. Good luck!...See MoreLaundry Room, Entry Room Combo Dilemma
Comments (8)Taking into consideration all the comments and your pictures I might try the following. Put a ceiling to floor pantry cabinet in the spot where the current white base cabinet is, taking out the upper above. More consolidated pantry. I'd stack the w/d on the right of the window wall. Put a bench with a back under the window and run the hoses behind the bench back. To the right of the w/d you could even hang a drop leaf table, that could be lifted into place for folding. Or put the pantry in like I mentioned. Take all uppers down and put in a mudroom hutch/seat built-in, utilizing an opening for the heater below and room for shoes, and having storage above. On the wall with the water valve run a cabinet in an L shape with hanging rod incorporated into an upper set of cabinets if there is room. Still stack the set. The laundry could go into cubbies under the base cabinet open shelving along the water valve wall....See MoreLaundry room attached to kitchen and master
Comments (13)Sorry, but I see so many problems with this layout, I would put everything on hold and get a different architect to work out something better. One bathroom for 3 bedrooms isn't going to work, the Powder room into study? Tiny laundry room with 4 bedroom home?? Not going to work. Surely poor configuration of entry into master and then, what??? go through closet to get to the master bath. No this isn't going to work AT All! You enter the home and walk into the dining room?? I assume you are trying to work within some original footprint of this home? But this is not going to work. I think you are trying to do too much in this space and you actually need an addition. Is there room on the property to relocate the garages to the side with the bedrooms, and convert one of those bedrooms into a laundry room? Then expand the master suite into the space where the current garages are? Just needs a lot more work and thought....See MoreHelp with mud room design
Comments (19)No kitchen designer. We worked with an interior designer earlier in the process who did 3D mockups of the kitchen/bathroom/laundry room for us, but she vanished on us (that's a whole 'nother story), so we're on our own for this one. My cabinet maker is awesome and does fully custom cabinets and gives great advice, but he works in hand drawings, not 3D mockups. So now it's me and graph paper. I agree that big shoe drawers are out. I'm going with low sided, washable bins. I also liked the boot tray idea, but we do better with containers with enough of a side that you can toss things in, rather than have to line them up. Other than my daughter's riding books, we have more shoes than boots, so I'm not too worried about height. We currently use our mudroom space for charging, so I think we'll actually use that, and it would help a lot if it were divided by person - right now its just a mess of devices and cords. Ironically, my daughter is, as she likes to point out, the most organized and tidy person in the house. She'll love having her own cubby to keep her things in, neat and tidy. My husband and I are less reliable about this sort of thing. My daughter's shoes will probably be in her assigned bin, and my will be by the couch or under the dining table, or wherever else I took them off. This isn't our main laundry area. Our main laundry room is upstairs with the bedroom. This is just a smaller stacked pair for kitchen linens (we use cloth napkins daily) and use by guests, as it's just down the hall from the guest bedroom....See MoreBiscuits N. Gravy
