Please help me pick an entry way tile!
Comments (7)Based on your preferences, I'm going to double down on my two suggestions. I don't think large tile will work on your small area, and I definitely don't think you should do it because it's popular. A tile should match the size of the space. Anything that small with that many corners will also have lots of weird cuts in the tile, and you might end up having to have something like a 2" strip of tile at one side of the room. Large tile is also more expensive to install and more prone to "lippage" because it's harder to make it straight. The cost of Chevron/herringbone is higher. But it will also help hide the weirdness of cutting tiles around all the stairs etc. You would also need a fairly experienced tile guy for this job, not the lowest bid. Only you can decide if it's worth it to you to do Chevron. Note that brick is a bit more difficult to clean, but they make sealers you can put on them, kind of like for basketball court floors. I just think your space is reasonably small and you have the opportunity to make the floor a great statement, so you should :) http://homeguides.sfgate.com/tile-installation-pricing-54070.html...See MoreHelp me overhaul my small living/dining/entryway with 3 doors!
Comments (8)COATS: I see on the floor plan that there is a closet in the office(?) If so, you could put a door in from the living room/dining room side and have that be your coat closet. Then you could get a shoe cabinet like this one https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/hemnes-shoe-cabinet-with-2-compartments-dark-gray-stained-20381763/ from IKEA to have by the front door. Otherwise I’d look at getting a hall tree/cabinet like the previous poster mentioned. Floor plan: see pics. If it works to put the door in for coats then put the dining hutch on the wall opposite the dining table. And possibly a couple of display cabinets to go behind the table. If not, put the hutch behind the table and put the hall tree wall opposite the dining table. Recessed lights: I laughed that you laughed about recessed lighting. They are extremely common in US no matter what the style. I love the ones you found and would definitely go in that direction. Floor: Love the floor. Would have area rugs to define living and dining or at least the living space. Bay Window: would need to see a picture. I think there may be some other options. I would be nice to be able to accentuate it. (See pic) Interior Design: I like where you are headed. Crown Molding: YES. Just do a little research on how wide. You don’t want to skimp. It will make your ceiling feel taller. I would paint it white like the baseboards....See MoreHelp me complete my laundry area
Comments (8)@Patricia Colwell I was leaning towards the same. Although since the sink is 24 inch deep and the false wall is 10 inch deep if the cabinet face is flush with false wall the cabinet will be 10 inch deep and it's door 24 inch behind the sink front. This limits the accessibility of cabinet for top shelves. I was wondering how tall should I build that cabinet. Any ideas?...See MoreHelp me complete my Living and Dining room!
Comments (20)Modpod- Love your suggestions! I would LOvE to do storage under the stairs for the boxes (I have a candle business and those are my jars), but we have nowhere else to put the bikes because we only have a carport, no garage. That’s really the only spot for them and my husband used them often, so I can’t just get rid of them. Luckily my brother in law, who is renting our spare bedroom, will be moving out soon because we are having kids soon (ivf already scheduled for December), so I can use part of the large closet for the jars. For the rug: still trying to figure out the mood we want, but I’ll see which one my husband is more drawn to. We will for sure get a larger rug. Love your idea about getting a coffee table that can double as extra seating. And I totally agree that it should be round. And now I NEED a sideboard lol! My husband needs storage for his bar stuff anyway, and I could put some candle jars in there too if needed! Great idea. Thank you so much!...See MoreStacey Nikolas Cruz
