Comments (12)Pretty rooms. One option is to hang roman shade bamboo blinds over the windows that you can pull up/down as needed, under a curtain rod placed up by the ceiling, with stationary curtain panels on the sides. The panels would be just for decoration. I'll attach a photo of where I've done this in my kitchen. I think this would look nice in those rooms, because it makes the room appear taller by using the space that you have over the windows. I have a similar space over my sliding door, and the bamboo blinds sit there while not being used. I'm sure my description isn't great, so hopefully the attached photo will help. How wide are the large windows? I got my bamboo blinds from overstock.com, they may go up to 72 in....See MoreWould you choose more garage and/or more bedrooms and/or views?
Comments (18)I would go for house 1, being able to walk to places is such a plus for me. Where we are now I can walk to the library in about 30 min (40 if the dog gets to sniff and pee on everything). It's another 10 min to get coffee and a donut (since I walked all that way) and too often our dog just isn't up for it. I wish we were a little closer to everything, about 1 mile closer and I'd walk for coffee every Saturday and Sunday. When I was in my 20's I wanted to live on acreage away from everything. Now that I'm in my 40's I like being near people and things. I love sitting on the porch for an hour and seeing 4 or more people/couples walking their dogs, kids, or just themselves. I don't know why, either :) Also, I would get more use out of a bigger garage than a guest house :). I have more toys and tools than out of town guests, and a separate structure is another thing to maintain. Bear in mind that I'm also anti-vacation-home (for us, not for everyone else). And a view is something you enjoy all the time. We aren't even on a hill and we have a view of woods and distant farmland off our back deck. There is something restful and enriching about a view you like (or love). So I would buy house number 1....See MoreNeed help with windows to maximize the view and layout
Comments (4)Do you mean 8' is the largest one-pane picture window you can get? Because we have a window that's 8'6", and it could've been bigger...But it's a 3-pane with sliders on each end, so is that maybe the difference? I am with Bethohio3...Cover as much of the wall as you want in window, with structural support to divide them. I think it makes it prettier/adds character to have some division anyway, and it won't really affect the overall veiw....See MoreNeed help/advice on exterior paint, windows and garage doors

My house was hit by a hailstorm and I'm having to make big decisions quickly. I really don't want to screw up - a lot of these decision will have to last 10+ years and each decision might influence the others. I'm very excited not to have a pink house much longer! I'm leaning towards a creamy white with black accents and wood-looking garage doors? Here's what's going on: - the roof has already been replaced and I went with a dark charcoal shingle. From the street you can't really see my roof - New Milgard French Doors were installed in the back. The exterior is black and somewhat modern - There are two big picture windows that are newish - they are white. The 2nd photo shows both - I just bought two black barn lights to over the garage doors - https://www.lampsplus.com/products/warehouse-10-inch-high-black-gooseneck-outdoor-wall-light__9c417.html Problems: - the front of the house is all garage, so the garage doors are very important. Right now they are basic white. - there's no front porch and you can't see the front door to paint it a fun color. - there's not much architectural interest to the house. Will white be too bland? - the windows in the front don't have enough space to put shutters on Decisions I need to make: - exterior paint color - garage doors. It will probably be a couple years before I can afford new ones, but I want to paint my house with new ones in mind. - windows - black or white? I love my new black French doors and I was thinking of getting black windows, but they're much more expensive. Much more. I appreciate any and all help and feedback!
