Have had the same kind of problem. I found on youtube how to clean these hozes and my machine were like new again. I have a w 1714 it is a europen model as I live in Sweden. Easy fix but took me about an hour due to lack of know how of how to take the machine apart.

Yep I’ve done hadn’t to take apart the whole washer like this to clean it all out. When you find a Miele washer and dryer that works for 100.00 for the set I did just that. Surprisingly none of the hoses or inner drum looked like that. It could be different detergent and different water that contributed to that or the different products used to clean washer who knows. In the past I have purchased used machines that were gunked up but with some elbow grease and lots of time (and/or

some “choice words) they most always clean up.

The problem is that the profile of the drum is stepped. You can't see much of anything just short of the the 1st couple of inches.

A1an, I've bought several used washers, lol. I love mine. Miele 1918 each. I've changed the cold water solenoid and the soap dispenser hose on one. The other was bought at an appliance repair shop that services high end appliances. I had those narrow black hoses off to change the solenoid and didn't look inside, dang.

I have to give a lot of thanks to @linus for talking me through some of my repair jobs. Its been great fun. Linus, you are my go to person for all Miele repairs :)))

totally understand :) spent about a week and half tearing the whole Miele machine apart (then forgot some of the steps to put back together lol luckily I had photos of it).

Had a top loader once we tore apart and I joke you not we scrapped a theee gallon bucket of crap out of the machine. Come to find out previous people used “homemade detergent” in machine. Soap scum was unreal.

Those are actual air tubes so that was "surprising". I guess my high usage though makes my machine much older than it is. I clean my machine monthly (have a reminder on my phone to do it) and I'm very particular about dosing etc. He said with the high speed spin the gunk just works its way back into these air tubes. It takes years for it to build up. The tube pictured was removed from the top of the drum area but the one from the front right I didn't photograph was literally completely blocked. No water would run through it. This is why it wasn't spinning things dry because no air was making its way into the drum so the water wasn't draining out quick enough.

The machine had given a lot of water control alerts though which the tech felt probably wasn't related to the air hose situation so he replaced it. The new one functions much quieter than my old one so I'm wondering if there was an issue with the old one (?) Either that or they changed the design of the part. Only issue now is my detergent drawer seems to be popping out. It didn't do that before.

I dont think it is gross. This is part of a washingmachines life. Those airhozes are easy to clean ones you know were they are. I did mine after 7 years if high use. If you do all other cleaning on a regular interwalls yiu will be fine with a clean machine but these airhozes needsnthe machine to be taken apart.

This dirt you se in these pics above will never reach the clothes.

Hot water and powder detergents and the miele will last a long time and give yiu clean clothes.

The debris that came out was kinda gross to me lol. Amazing it was in the shape of the hose. Amazing how much they hindered my machines performance too. The two loads I did yesterday seemed to spin out much better. We’re not handy here at all so I doubt we’ll be diying it in the future but I can see how it would be a fairly easy thing for someone more inclined.

I briefly googled the keyword but did not pull much info. I suppose the airhose is to allow the unit to vent/breath. Anyhow, as proactive maintenance, with the top open, what is good practice for things to potentially clean/purge/etc while the top is open.

I just recently opened up the guts of mine and while it is fresh in my head, I may just open up the top just to clean the aformentioned items in this thread

The tech said the air hoses were akin to the trap in a sink drain. Allow air to push the water out. If they’re blocked then no air helping to push so my water was draining too slowly.

Thanks for posting this pictorial, which is especially helpful. You mention two (2) air hoses. I see the one connected to the top drum in the photograph, but where is second one located? Thanks.

When the front was off the machine and I’m facing the machine, it’s on the right side running vertically.

Machine has been draining just fine since they were cleaned.

For the record, my machine drains fine. I have it open today to just check another item out and was planning to be proactive about the hose being mentioned here. NOT going to touch it. The rubber feels pliable yet hard. Afterall....given the age of the machine. So without a new hose on order, I would leave this alone unless it really became a issue. AND if if did, probably order a hose beforehand so you have it on hand before you do your own DIY repair...
