Miele DW - Horrid service, think twice before buying!!
Comments (26)I didn't misrepresent anything. The dealer was fine to come out this far to install the thing, but then won't come to service it. I think that's Miele's problem to fix, but we may disagree on it. Again, I didn't buy this off the internet and install it myself, I had a Miele authorized dealer install it at full price but when I need service I'm told I'm on my own. If you read my post, that's the point - service may be great in big city, but in small town it's certainly not and initially before a lot of argument on our part Miele would NOT talk with any non-authorized tech so we were caught in catch-22 (no authorized tech would come, but they will only speak with authorized tech...) If you think a tech making a drive is worth $100/hr, well then I guess you've got a lot more money than we do, but regardless they refused to come at all - they didn't even offer to come at $x/rate. At this point we've got a local tech coming tomorrow, hopefully with the "backordered" part for our "out of date" 2 year old dishwasher and will see what happens. I've yet to ask my wife if she spoke with the same number you're giving me, I know she spent at least 30-60 min arguing with Miele to get any help at all but I want to see if that's the number she called. Have been too busy with other life jobs to have that conversation but will try today before (independent local) tech comes tomorrow...See MoreMiele T9802 Service Call :(
Comments (44)"I am also doing the unthinkable... I'm going to follow the technician's advice and use no more than 2 TBSP of detergent per full load. " Well, it's worth a try. Your laundry won't come out as strongly perfumed, but that, too, will become the new normal. It's all relative, and what we're accustomed to. When he posted on the CR forums, John Shipkowski always said: 2 Tablespoons of regular HE 1 Tbsp of 2x HE 1 tsp. of 3x HE detergent was all a person needed. He seemed to have a lot of experience repairing and looking inside FL washers. The only variables not discussed with his dosing recommendations were: 1.) the size/capacity of the drum and 2.) liquid or powder. It is possible I missed that in my research. His suggested amounts work for me with a 1/2 to 2/3 full drum. Those amounts are pretty close to what I'm now using. I always look at a particular product's dosing, and pro-rate up or down, based on size of load and judging how dirty the clothes are....See MoreMiele dishwasher service challenges
Comments (9)" I have spent time on the phone with them and they can't figure it out." You need to be more precise - fault code 78 means something - what is it? I believe with a simple Google that it indicates that it's either having a problem pumping out the water - or your kitchen drain is clogged or very slow. "And they can't find a repair person in our area. " Try a smaller shop that repairs high end appliances. Miele worked with me, got me the part. It's really not that complicated, pull the DW, lay on side, all the components are right there....See MoreMiele reliability and service
Comments (36)"I mean, do cookies look alike coming from different sheets?" Why I would not base a decision on a single factor for any oven. It depends on the functionality you need. I would not trade the functionality of a setting which lets me roast perfectly in the usual time without any preheating whatsoever. That's everything from potatoes I just roasted to Thanksgiving turkey which I start in a cold oven. Why do those functions not get the same value as the stupid cookie thing? Because the cookie thing is used for marketing and repeated so it becomes a standard when it should be only one criterion in a list that will be different for everyone. Last weekend, I made oven-steamed branzinos for 4. There were two whole fish in a roasting pan with white wine and herbs, covered with foil. In the old days, it would be essential to slit each fish down the center to get the top filets cooked through to the bone since the oven heat came from below. In my oven, I can use the "surround" setting which cooks from top and bottom at the same time. The fish were perfectly and evenly cooked through and beyond delicious. No cutting. I can bake 4 loaves of sourdough in succession with 2-3 minutes of oven recovery time. Granted a reasonably even oven overall, how long does it take for the other ovens to recover full heat at 450? And how important is that to the buyer? Important to me because I bake bread and pizza a lot. Not important to someone who doesn't. There are trade offs. I don't make cookies often and turning or switching trays is no big deal. If it is, and you don't mind the oven liner chipping, or you don't mind more limited functionality, then there are various choices. There are no right/wrong choices here. Even value is relative. And I could make a very good case that DD's Kenmore double oven, which is a bit smaller, has many of the same functions as other single-fan ovens with 0 porcelain issues and the best self-cleaning I've seen since my Thermadors in the 1970s. I made a mess in her oven with a high heat roasted chicken and was stunned at how well the self-clean worked, especially given all the self-clean horror stories here....See More- 6 years agolast modified: 6 years ago
