Miele DW and Service/Repair?
Comments (4)Every brand has service issues - PERIOD ! ! ! Nobody, and no company has a perfect service or product record - this is fact and is a fact of life. Get used to it. What people wax on about here re Miele is that the vast majority of their product are well made, well designed, and well manufactured. This doesn't mean that you will be guaranteed yours won't arrived undamaged or that the pump won't fail after the very first use. IT DOES MEAN that the odds are very very very slim that scenario will occur. When / if you need service your odds are better that you have a better experience with them than others too, especially when you deal with the mother ship for parts and troubleshooting. That said - Miele relies on contracted servicers in the field for support - these firms and people DO NOT WORK FOR MIELE. They try to train and monitor these firms but nothing is stopping the owner of one of these firms from attending the training and becoming certified with Miele and then going out and hiring an ex felon axe murdering smarmy used car salesman and sending him to you house to fix your Miele or JennAir or Kenmore for that matter. Re: the cost - $175 is steep for a minimum, but if that's the going rate in your area - then that's the going rate! Miele doesn't set this - the marketplace does. Re: fees vs. value - your not paying just for that guy to come and unkink your hose for 5 min. any more than you are paying $250+ for you doctor to see you for five minutes (or less) to give you a once over and declare you have a cold or virus of the flu and write a scrip for you. Yo are paying for past training and education, office staff, helpers, stocked supplies, transportation, insurances, ect...... What's it cost to have the Buick or Toyota tech to reset the idiot light on your car? $95+ and the $15 air filter you forgot to change and you get to drive to them....See MoreQuestions about Miele Dishwasher
Comments (3)I have the Miele Diamante G2143SC, which has the control panel on the front. The one your looking at G2183SCSF has the hidden controls on the top. Difference is the G2143 has the LED display on the front where you can set a delay start, and there is also a "Turbo" function that can reduce was time by 15-25 percent. The G2183 does not have the delay start or Turbo. The next model down G2181SCSF loses the China/Chrystal mode and the water softener. Since you have a whole-home water softener, as long as it's properly set, you don't need the use of the one on the dishwasher. But since I don't have a whole-home unit, I do use the built-in water softener on the Diamante and have it set to 6 grains. My unit was also connected to the hot water, since that is where the existing dishwasher hookup was. I asked Miele directly about this beforehand, and was told that you can hook it up to either, but said that there is no issue with connecting it to the hot water. So when it was installed, that's how it was done. There was no "cold water hookup" mode mentioned anywhere in the installation sheet or manual. It does not waste water as deeageaux stated. If fills from the hot water line and starts the cycle. All the cycles run fine. Maybe this was an issue on older units? Here's a copy/paste from the manual: The dishwasher can heat its own water to the temperature required by the wash program. This allows for connection of the machine to either a hot or cold water source. For lowest energy consumption connect the dishwasher to a cold water source. For fastest possible wash times, with slightly higher energy consumption, connect the dishwasher to a hot water source. All programs use hot water in the rinse cycles. The inlet hose is approximately 5 ft. (1.5m) long. A 5 ft. (1.5m) drain extension is available from Miele. The water inlet hose comes equipped with a 3/4" female hose thread connector. This can be directly connected to a water supply with 3/4" MHT (male hose thread ends). Water pressure: Must be between 4.5 - 145 psi (0.3 - 10 bar)....See MoreMiele excella service menu

Comments (44)"I am also doing the unthinkable... I'm going to follow the technician's advice and use no more than 2 TBSP of detergent per full load. " Well, it's worth a try. Your laundry won't come out as strongly perfumed, but that, too, will become the new normal. It's all relative, and what we're accustomed to. When he posted on the CR forums, John Shipkowski always said: 2 Tablespoons of regular HE 1 Tbsp of 2x HE 1 tsp. of 3x HE detergent was all a person needed. He seemed to have a lot of experience repairing and looking inside FL washers. The only variables not discussed with his dosing recommendations were: 1.) the size/capacity of the drum and 2.) liquid or powder. It is possible I missed that in my research. His suggested amounts work for me with a 1/2 to 2/3 full drum. Those amounts are pretty close to what I'm now using. I always look at a particular product's dosing, and pro-rate up or down, based on size of load and judging how dirty the clothes are....See Moredbabrams
