Family room needs help
I am trying to redo our family room (which is in the basement) and I just can’t seem to pull it all together. The sectional is new. I like the coffee table for its casual feel but I’m not sure that it goes? Or is it the area rug that isn’t working? We’re going to replace the light laminate flooring with something of a warmer tone and paint the walls. I’m thinking about painting them a grayish\bluish color like the solid pillows but Im not set on any colors yet. I would love some ideas or suggestions re: table, area rug, colors or whatever will help to make this a cozy, comfortable space for my family.

6 years agoI like the light floors in that space with all the dark furniture , the color of the pillow would be nice but a lot lighter so color match then cut 50% . I think the coffee table needs to be larger or maybe even a big ottoman for feet with a tray for drinks.Maybe a shag rug for some texture with a bit of the blue in it like this kind of mix .I would look for pillows with a bit lighter and bigger patterns

Comments (14)How about facing your two couches and put the chair facing the TV? Then you could have a play area behind one of the couches with a rug to play on. The couch would sort of separate the play area from the TV area and easy to put the toys away. I remember when we had two little boys and how they "helped" me put their things away. An end table or two with lamps and you home will look nice. Comments (10)Your photos are not posting because you are not waiting until Houzz has really uploaded them to your post. Your walls and carpet do not currently complement the brick of your fireplace. Painting is essential to making this room work successfully IMO. The chairs & sofa actually work well with the brick. I would not spend money to change those items. Just paint and new carpet or hard surface flooring with an area rug. Here is how various rugs would look in your room. Comments (6)Pull the sectional our from walls and corner. Bring the dining table and chairs into the family room and where the table is now put a bar and stools with no backs so you can push them under the bar. That arrangement gives you a chance to use the bar as an entertaining bar and also a serving piece for the table. 6 years agoI like the idea of ottomans under coffee tables. You have a hard surface to set drinks and books on, but also a place to prop feet comfortably or supply extra seating. The gray and white stripe rug in the picture would look nice with your sectional. Also, I would look for bulkier, down-filled pillows that can stand up on the slick leather. The floor lamp looks very cool from this angle. Best wishes in your new space.
