Sunday Dinner
Comments (10)Sounds yum Michael and reminds me of many meals eaten at my maternal grandmother's home after church. Miss that happening. Suzy, I did everything within my power to avoid burst pies, and managed to avoid it this cold snap. Still hubby dealt with burst pipes for work all week long. He's exhausted. It does seem to be at our breaking point for winter here, cherry blossoms and crocus aren't far off. I'm still trying to decide on my sunday supper; either I'll have the tarragon chicken I suggested to g with roasted potatoes (but I don't think I will be hungry enough for that), chicken livers and mushrooms served up with scrambled eggs (a comfort dish from childhood, and actually, it's really tasty), or garlic shrimp served up with crusty bread. I may make the lemon custard dish ann t has shown every now and again on the cooking forum, but I am also considering coconut creme brulee. The lemon dish is about 120 calories per serving. I haven't figured out the coconut one yet. But I sure won't have chicken livers, eggs and dessert, that'd kill the diet for certain! I'm down 33 pound still, but no farther. I guess I should give up dessert, but I don't wanna!...See MoreA memory of eating Sunday dinner at Grandma's
Comments (4)Yep, sometimes even TWO Sears catalogs were used! LOL My dad was one of ten sons and many a Sunday was spent at my grandma and grandpa's house with all the uncles and aunts and cousins. Everybody brought food and I have many great memories of us all getting together. Of course, there was the time that all the kids climbed up on the woodshed and me, being the smallest, was afraid to climb down! The word went out and one of my uncles came and rescued me. Also, the time that the team of mules, Old Kate and Coalie were tromping along behind me in the barnyard. They would not have hurt a fly, but the faster I walked, the faster they followed me and I was terrified! LOL Thanks for making me think of all of that, SheilaJoyce....See More52 Sunday Dinners
Comments (7)The Nov. 21 New Yorker magazine (Food Issue) has an article about recreating a Georgian dinner using the kitchens at Hampton Court Palace. George III (the 'mad' king who lost us Colonials) had just recovered from an extended 'spell'. He was allowed back to table February 6, 1789. The menu for Their Majesties Dinner: Soupe barley 4 chickens roasted 3 pullets minced and broiled 7 3/4 mutton collop pyes 6 perch boiled 2 breasts of lamb a la pluck 2 salmic of ducks 13 loin veal smort That was the first course. Comments (15)Yum! That looks delicious. We had our extended family get-together at my house yesterday, so the menu was (sorry, didn't take any photos): Appetizers: everyone brought something so we had a huge assortment--hot cheese dip, cold cheeses, shrimp cocktail, raisin bread, green onions wrapped with cream cheese and dried beef, etc Dinner was: Chicken breasts with a topping of cranberries, apples, onions, rosemary and brie; roasted herbed potatoes, corn, applesauce, rolls (and I totally forgot to put out the beautiful tomato and fresh mozzarella salad dd brought--darn--and it looked delicious--of course, she didn't notice my mistake until it was too late!) Dessert: Butterscotch peanut butter rice krispie treats, raspberry white chocolate cheesecake squares, assorted cupcakes. Not to mention, bowls of candy and cookies that I had stashed all over the house, and that were thoroughly enjoyed, from the looks of them when everyone left! Nice day--we had a good time. Been a while since we were ALL able to get together....See More- 8 years ago
