Help with Coffee table and "bringing together" my family room please!
Comments (19)Hello everyone! Thanks for your awesome advice. I agree w @groveraxle. I think I may need to consider replacing my rug w something a little more orangey. We love the gray poofy rug. But I’m not sure it matches and is making the purchase of the coffee table quite challenging. I liked @BeverlyFLADeziner recommendation of the 2 x silver patina tables. They are “different”. But I think I may need to add a glass top. What do you guys think of these one? Do they clash w the sectional? The first 2 are from wayfair and I think I’d put 2 as u all recommended. The 3rd amazon and only 1. Can I keep the rug or change it for something beigier? Sorry I stink at colors! Comments (67)So....back again -yet another rug disaster -I ordered a 3x5 of the very colorful rug and the BIG one is on the way -it doesn't work. Contemplating going with this one that someone shared but another Houzz responder mentioned was old fashioned (and so did a friend of mine who has a more contemporary decor style). I really don't understand what that means...my house is an old home and I have it styled more traditionally almost vintage. This one does seem to brighten the room and allows to incorporate other colors. Thoughts? BTW I'm almost 50 so I'm close to vintage ha ha! I'm not a modern or contemporary decorator as it doesn't work with our existing pieces. Thanks again!...See MoreWhat color will bring my bathroom together?
Comments (22)For anyone who might care how this turned out, I painted the bathroom and it's sooo much better! After many paint chips and a few days of moving Samplize swatches around, I decided on Krypton (SW 6247). It is slightly lighter than the previous color and a gray target than blue - but it flirts with a hint of blue within its gray, which ties the tiles and counter together regardless of whether we're using the cool lights, warm lights, natural light or a combination!...See MoreHelp Bring Dining Room Together!
Comments (13)Re: chandeliers- They are supposed to be hung so that there bottom is 36 inches from the table top. Or another way to think of it is, since most tables are 36 inches high, and the chandelier bottom is 36" up from that, 36 + 36 =72. You have a 9 feet ceiling. 9 feet is 108 inches. 108 - 72 = 36. So the bottom of the chandelier hangs 36 inches from the ceiling. The width of the chandelier is usually 1 foot less than the width of the table or less if it is bulky looking. The absolute bare minimum a table should be from a wall is three feet because the diner has to have rom to pull out his/her chair. That doesn't even count space for someone walking by. So you really don't have space for the china cabinet there, but then you don't have space for a buffet there either, because a buffet is usually around 20 inches or so deep, just a few inches less than that china cabinet. What you can do is move the china cabinet to another room and get a buffet, or keep the buffet and move the table out, or keep the buffet and move it between the windows or the wall opposite the window. If you need the storage space a buffet would afford and you like the idea of serving on it, instead of bringing in another wood piece, or adding another color, why not do a built in to match your wall color or trim and run it along that wall where you have the china cabinet now and make it as long as you like. The internet abounds with instructions for this, or you can pay someone to do it. Basically you would be getting kitchen upper cabinets and a nice counter on top, something simple like a piece of glass or a stone remnant. Am I seeing correctly that you have one curtain panel per window? That is not good, the width of the curtains need to be double that off the window. So you need two panels per window. Can you get another set? If not, here is an idea. Get another pair in the same material but a different color, the accent color you want to bring into the room, and cut in half the long way (very carefully.) Sew each half to the long sides of each panel that you have now. That effectively doubles the width of the panel you have now. Then to tie the two colors together, purchase a trim that incorporates both colors and sew it along the vertical edge of the new color which is the outside vertical edges of the panels. Get extra trim to use on a table runner, placemats, etc....See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
