Recent interesting experiences (not quite to qualify as adentures)
Comments (22)About mid-evening last Monday I was feeling chilly, checked the thermometer - it was about 60 degrees F. Checked the furnace, pushed the button to restart - nothing. Checked oil tank - at the bottom! Set an electric heater to operate in bathroom and kitchen, as it was about 15 degrees F. outside. Went to bed, with an extra blanket. Had a meeting Tuesday morning, visited son, borrowed an electric heater - for basement. As house was chilling - didn't want any frozen water pipes! How ... was ... I ... going ... to ... ask ... landlord ... (troubled as he is by arm in a sling from snowmobile accident almost a year ago and in pain) ... that ... I'd ... let ... the ... furnace ... run ... out ... of ... oil ... --- AGAIN! Piled on blankets, enough that they made me sweat ... then pulled off several on toward morning, to alleviate the sweating - as who wants to run around in sweaty clothing in a cold house! A while ago, when he oil line had allowed air to get in, I was able to open a valve by the pump to let the air get pumped out, then close it when oil spurted out. Tried that ... it pumped some air, then oil, so I closed the valve and the fire started ... ... ran for part of a minute ... and went out. Opened the valve, some more air came out, then oil, closed it, the fire started again. After a couple of such results ... the fire started ... and kept going. Has been going since. I've been away from 10:15 this morning till now, 7:45 ... but am almost 100% sure that the house'll be warm when I get there. So - I'm about 15 degrees of thankful. That ... my house is full of hot air, again (no comments, please!). And ... that I don't have to presume upon my landlord's good nature, to clear up the results of my heedlessness. I'm deciding that, in the cold weather, I'd better contract with myself to check the level of the fuel in the tank on the first and the fifteenth of each month. At our church's annual meeting on Sunday, the minister had said something about the church being somewhat chilly on some days of the week ... so I slipped over to her husband to ask whether it was mainly full of hot air on Sunday ... ... and he looked at me and solemnly said that, "Yes, it was". ole (warm) joyful...See MoreAny recent experience buying a Thermador Pro Harmony 48 inch gas range
Comments (14)i really like the Thermador brand and we bought the 48" Harmony gas range. We've had it about 6 months now, and I just found out that ambient temp is reading about 25 degrees higher than what it is set at. Also, my probe stopped working which is the reason i was using another thermometer in the oven. Has anyone experienced this? I'm also a little disappointed that the broil function has only one setting which gets very hot. My old Wolf range had low/med/high so i could control the broil better. i have a tech coming in next 2 weeks but wanted to find out if anything has had any issues with their gas range. The things i like about the Thermador are the star burners, the smooth sliding racks, and i like the griddle that we have as well. Very easy to clean since it's nonstick....See MoreMy recent unexpected ER adventure
Comments (50)palisades, thanks for understanding and replying in the same spirit that I wanted to but perhaps didn't do as gently as I should have. I have friends and relatives who are doctors of various sorts, including medical doctors. From such people and from my own providers, I've learned that very often diagnoses of diseases and conditions are nuanced and often tentative and uncertain, and appropriate actions or treatment options are often the same and more. Few physicians in few situations will feel comfortable saying "if this, then always that", unless the question is "Should I turn my light off when I go to bed" Few matters physicians deal with are that simplistic. My impression in reading what you wrote was that it was unlikely you were talking about something about which you had education or training to deal with. Because your words suggested far too much certainty than I've come to expect from experts I know when discussing issues that are nuanced. There are not "quite a few health professionals" who visit on this forum. There are a lot of pretenders who avoid answering what their qualifications are when asked, meaning, they have none. There's one ER physician who happens by periodically who is generous with her time (I believe it's a female doc) but who understandably keeps her comments at a high level and general. Except to debunk egregious comments made by pretenders who seem to do so regularly, Expert advice is available from public sources, and many often refer to these. Not as personal opinions necessarily but to share the expert comments. Believe words from experts with scientific, medical or public health qualifications, not from media personalities or those who work in news or editorial positions. ....See MoreWhat's you recent experience with whirlpool washers?
Comments (18)The Neptune frontloader line was developed and produced by Maytag, introduced in 1997. They were never branded as Whirlpool. The first model was MAH3000. Then MAH4000, MAH5500, MAH6500, and MAH7500. Maytag sourced a few Neptune frontloader models of a different design from Samsung (MAH6700, MAH8700, MAH9700). There was also two Neptune TL models (FAV6800, FAV9800) produced by Maytag for a few years, which is a toploader of a unique mechanical design (I have one). Whirlpool took ownership of Maytag on 4/1/2006 and shut down Maytag's laundry production facilities in Oct 2007. Maytag's first washer was introduced in 1907. The 100-year anniversary was 2007. Whirlpool produced a Centennial Maytag model in Oct 2007, which was a Whirlpool-design toploader. My neighbor had a MAH6500 with serial number April 2006 which surely was at the very end of production. I did one repair on it some years ago (control panel). He replaced the machine a couple months ago. Regards to spin speed, the Maytag-built Neptunes are 800 RPM, 1000 for the MAH7500. The Samsung-sourced units are 1000 to 1200 depending on which model. Whirlpool's early Duet for comparison was 900 to 1100. (edited to correct Neptune TL model numbers)...See Morejoyfulguy
