Gandle, are you taking a cholesteral medicine? My f-i-l started getting weak as a kitten, couldn't hold his head up and it turned out to be a reaction to his Zorcor (sp) chlolesteral medicine. Sometimes it can cause a deterioartion of the muscles. Has some long name Rhebomyalyscin (sp). This weas first diagnosed during the London Blitz. It can happen when you have had lots of physical stress like bombings or eathquakres, or reaction to medicine (legal or illegal) or if you have been a heavy drinker. Once they got him off the medicine and started a drip line he has been getting his strengh back. He had been on it 2 years with no adverse affects until this spring.

Yeah these aren't the most forgiving plants, but there's no harm in trying. "Heel it in" in a shadier than would be optimal spot, after a couple years recovery you can always move it again. Tease the roots out and water but do not overwater. If any of it were still green (or purple!) I'd be more confident you could save it, usually plants have a way of "orderly killing off" their branches to try to save their own lives. (way over anthropomorphizing, but the analogy is useful) when the last leaf turns brown, that's often the end. If it's any consolation it's very easy to misjudge that if you think something was getting rained on...in fact that reminds me I need to go water now since we got stiffed in the last 48 hours of convection! Also you have to remind yourself that the amount of water that lasted x days in late April is now lasting 0.3x.

Before throwing it out I would wait a day. Last time there was a warning it ended up only being Romaine from a very small area. Which was announced within a couple of days. With Thursday being a holiday it may take longer this time. Simply put it in an extra bag for now. If it turns out from the effected area and/or it is no longer good toss it.
