I have done onion sets and the onions come out small. I want to grow a big onion. so I am thinking maybe a container. but the onions are really not that important. I really want to do a lot of lettuce in containers. I am thinking something like a little gem or a leaf lettuce and want to have an idea of what size container is ok to use. Obviously 5 gallons is much larger than needed and a 4 inch pot is too small. I am guessing about a quart might do it. but maybe a gallon is needed. I think what I have to do is to take some used pots and see how it comes out. I dont have little gem seeds but do have other kinds of lettuce. I think I will have to try some leaf lettuce in different sized containers and see what works for me. I am not so sure the onions are worth the effort in pots except with some bunching onions.

For breakfast I had a smoked salmon salad, snack: watermellon and almonds lunch: orange and 80 calories worth of ice cream, snack: more watermellon and almonds. It is only 4! I had eyed a Lean Cuisine for dinner, but writing this I just realized what a pig I have been today so I might just skip. 3. What did you have for dinner last night? watermellon and almonds 4. What is your favorite flower in your flower garden? a 14 foot high jasmine 5. Other than the main colors in your home now, what colors would you like to change to? I would really like to someday own a gray Neoclassical with a slick black front door. Maybe that is just a reflex because it is the complete opposite of the yellow country Victorian we are finishing building now. 6. Are you an online shopper or do you prefer to go to a store in person? Either. I *love* to shop, but I never buy much. Getting out and visiting shops is thrilling enough for me that I don't feel like I need to buy the proverbial t-shirt. 7. If you do shop online, what is your favorite website, other than Amazon? Is Craigslist shopping?? I have been looking out for several things and prefer to buy vintage or antiques. Antique stores (in real life) just thrill me to no end. 8. Do you paint your nails? I break my nails on the darn piano and I only paint my nails when they are long... so not very often. 9. What one thing this week are you looking forward to doing? It is a weird week here, so I am just hoping that everything runs smoothly. A win would be no more poisonous snakes this week. What type of car do you drive and the color? We just bought a new vehicle wild color. All our vehicles end up some crazy color. They can't make a color that is too wild for us! :O)

Just noticed the couple of questions...No, no fillers needed. Last nights salad with a frittata. Easily 4 large salads. The rest put in a smoothy at work. this one was just a big blend. I've gotten so far ahead of myself I'm producing much more than we can consume. And a pic this morning of what is downstairs under lights. I have about 30 varieties I grow in rotation. Not always a blend but over-produced for the holiday long weekend. Sometimes just the daikon, red Rambo, china rose radish with fresh cucumber sliced. Simple lemon dressing. Or the crunchy sunflower shoots with the five blend pea shoots and a fresh sliced golden beet, different dressing. I will probably purchase once or twice a nice buttery Boston head for a avocado wrap at some point but the variety is so flavor punched I use mandolin paper thin veggies like a salad taco. No real need for any extra head lettuce. 10-12 days to harvest. And still fresh up to a couple weeks. Un-cut. Nothing fresher than a scissor snip an hour before brunch/dinner. Because these are young and not producing fruit, (like a tomato), a simple Ikea led light will grow macro greens. Last winter we had a month of gray snowy days. I set up a small shelf in my kitchen pantry and grew without issue.

I made a huge Greek salad for dinner the other night using 2 large Romaine hearts and after we ate it that night I saw the news report the lettuce is being recalled in Canada too and called for restaurants to stop serving it, I checked the lettuce packaging and the lettuce we ate was from Salinas CA. I just tossed the remaining heart into the garbage. Buying that package of Romaine was the first time I had purchased Romaine in a long time because all the issues with it. I prefer the crunchiness of head lettuce. I won't be buying Romaine lettuce again. It was Andy Boy lettuce
