Help me make up my mind, please?
Comments (17)Good idea socks. I did get around one day to giving away the coat that I wore to go away on my honeymoon 33 years ago. Anyone remember those short patterned synthetic fur coats that were all the go in the early 1970's?. It was the most glamorous thing I'd ever owned, and I felt like a movie star in it, or a chubbier version of Jean Shrimpton. LOL. Well, I kept that coat for 20 years, even though I never wore it again, because we moved up here to the tropics. I got it out of storage one day to show my teenage sons, thinking, ha, now they'll see that their Mum was a bit of a groover, and not always frumpy old mum. So what did they do?... went into hysterics! the 13 year old asked in all seriousness, if I'd made it from a lounge chair LOL. The 15 year old wouldn't even touch it, because he claimed it was road-kill, the 19 year old thought I was pulling their leg, and it was part of an old fancy dress costume, and on it went. I gave it to my local craft lady friends for bear-making. They were politer, with sweet comments like, "well, no doubt it looked good back *then* LOL. (This classic one I've been wondering about is very different to that old trendy bit of gear!) Yes, I've been trying to work out a way to use that "penny flipping decision decider" with things that I get stuck on. Throw clothes up in the air, shut my eyes, and if they land on the floor, they go out, if they land on the bed I keep them? Nope, that wouldn't work. I'd need to know I couldn't change my mind for it to be effective. Ok, I could toss them, and yell out when they're up in the air where I want them to land. Nope.. any ideas anyone? How can we apply it? Have I said how much I love this forum.. Oh, that's right I believe I have just mentioned it in passing a few times..:):). But it does bear repeating. I can hardly believe that I have found a place where I can ask about a second hand leather coat and 7 different people care! LOL It's awesome....See MorePlease help me decorating my living room!!
Comments (39)You have pretty things to work with, Love. If you find a seagrass or neutral type rug, a pretty patterned chair would look so charming! You can accent with patterned throw pillows as well. Do you have something that could be used for a focal point? Maybe your piano?? As "Bannie" mentioned, I have a similar room and used a faux FP as the focal point. Then I added a round mirror and small sconces. Excuse my old pix, but hopefully they will help you. This will be such a fun project for you!!...See MoreYikes! Now, it's time to update! Help Me, Please GET RID OF THE GOLD!
Comments (1065)I hear ya D2G, we all have plenty of those missed opportunities in our homes. I know I have tons! It certainly doesn't make your home any less beautiful! However, I would not draw attention to it with a FP screen, except maybe one of those fold over types Flo mentioned-they tend to stand higher. I also wouldn't buy anything else for the mantle. You don't need to match the art, and you have so many lovely things. I would sooner see your beautiful clock and candelabras, though not "perfect," because they are a piece of your story....See MoreDesperate for help making an open plan cozier and more Craftsman-like
Comments (46)Thank you cpartist. So the cabinets above lower ones are 2 ft. tall tall. Photos are deceptive. I thought the bottom cabinets were 9 ft and the top ones just 1 ft. LOL. Since you have commented publicly that you are not tall, what was your rationale for going with cabinets to the ceiling? No the cabinets above the lower ones are 20" tall. Here's how it works out: 120" total height to ceiling - 36" base cabinets = 84" 84" - 18" height between base cabinets and upper cabinets = 66" 66" - 40" upper cabinets = 26" Top cabinets are 20" leaving 6" of crown molding. My rationale is when I was renting an apartment in NY the cabinets didn't go to the ceiling. I spent the first week I lived there standing on the counters, cleaning grease, dirt, and other disgusting stuff that was at least 1/4" thick off of the top of the cabinets. I also feel it looks cleaner going to the ceiling. Living in the northeast most people talk about how large and open concept, 10 ft spaces are not only more costly to build but costly to heat. The kitchen in your home looks beautiful, but I’m having trouble justifying 10 ft. ceilings to myself. I don't think the difference between 9' and 10' is that huge a difference in cost. However my rationale for going with 10' was I'm in FL and heat rises. This past winter I turned on my heat 2x for maybe 2-3 hours total....See Moresableincal
