Cuisinart toaster oven?
Comments (7)hi writersblock, we have the black and stainless version of this. we bought it at Costco. we also had an older version of this in white, which was much better. there are two major drawbacks to this model, that i've found. the first is that the handle is designed poorly. when you reach to open it, your knuckles touch the door behind the handle. i burned myself so many times when we first got it. now i don't because i guess i adapted. if you look at the breville, the handle is curved above the door, probably so your knuckles don't touch! also, read the 1-star reviews on amazon. people complain about getting burned. the second drawback is the size. they made it deeper and more square so that a 12" pizza can fit. as far as i can tell, that was a mistake. the cooking is not even anymore, and stuff burns unless you turn it. the older version makes me think the fan was just right for the cavity size. something is off in this model. plus reaching in is a little more difficult because it is deeper. yep, i get burned. but this is my fault because i fiddle with whatever is cooking in there with bare hands. i still have not adapted! ;) so anyway, those are my thoughts. and i hope i can get rid of this monstrosity with my remodel... but maybe that's wishful thinking. toaster ovens are so handy....See MoreThemador Wall Combo vs Viking Steam Convection Oven
Comments (7)Thank you both for your thoughts. I think you are right. Black and stainless look really nice together and the wall oven does go with the cooktop. I am trying not to test my husband's generosity by going overboard and trying to be sensitive to his needs (even if he really NEVER cooks!) because he likes the look of stainless. We have a 25% chance of the Thermador having problems, but I guess that is the chance we can take. The appliance store will fully warranty it for 5 years for $29. It seems like a good compromise to get such a nice unit for the money. I spent the last several days researching lots of brands and just getting a micro/wall oven combo (Bosch, GR profile or Electrolux) is going to be 3k. I almost sprang for it, but it is just hard to justify. I think I am going to just do this and move on to the next decision, like our countertops. We found incredible custom cabinets on Craigslist that were built 3 years ago by a cabinetmaker and removed by the new owners. We only paid $1,500 and they are all wood construction with dovetailed drawers. So this savings is going to allow me to do a really nice remodel for a reasonable $25,000, which in our neighborhood is all we really should spend to keep our investment. Thank you! I am calling with my credit card this morning to just go ahead and buy the Thermador and keep my fingers crossed that it works. :)...See MoreToaster oven vs microwave
Comments (20)I have both a microwave and a toaster oven. If I had to give up one, it would be the microwave. In fact, the only reason I haven't already gotten rid of it is my husband and daughter use it. I prefer quality to convenience, and most microwaved food just doesn't taste that good. The handful of things that the microwave is good for (boiling water, heating canned soup, etc.) don't justify having a microwave IMHO. A toaster oven could be considered redundant since it does the same thing as the oven built into my range. It doesn't cook as evenly and probably is less energy efficient than my gas range. The main reason I have it is that it doesn't heat the entire kitchen up as much as the full size oven. I use the toaster oven in the summer when I wouldn't even consider using the built-in. We also use it to make toast since we don't have a toaster. Get right down to it, I could easily survive without a microwave or toaster oven. However, I suspect that most people these days use more prepared meals than I do. For cooking frozen meals and reheating leftovers, a microwave is quicker, which I think is what people who don't cook are looking for....See Morecountertop oven contest - Breville vs Cuisinart
