Comments (15)Filter both nutrient as it returns to the reservoir and on the pump suction/inlet. Doesn't matter where the filter is on the pump, the filter pressure drop will restrict the flow. I use 2 layers of woman's stockings and don't plug my emitters. The only problem with filtering on the inlet/suction is that you may cavitate the pump from low npsh. If it's cavitating, you'll hear it. Cheap centrifugal pumps cavitate easily. How you treat the water depends strongly upon your water quality and, if you have doubts, get it tested. I am on municipal water whose only problems are slime mold, present in all piping systems more than 20 tears old, and chlorine. I treat the water with 1000 ppm of 3% hydrogen peroxide and let it sit for 48 hrs minimum and, voila, no problems. High pressure pumps and controls are expensive and really not necessary. Best plan is to reduce the pressure drop of the emitter and use conventional hydro pumps......way less expensive and maintenance intensive. I have done it both ways and there's no benefit in making fine mist as liquid works just as well. You must aerate the nutrient....See MoreBlue Star 30 RNB gas line
Comments (9)I just had one installed. According to the installation instructions, you need a 3/4" gas pipe to the range (1/2" + 1/4"). The range comes with a 4' connection hose that has the 3/4" adapter that connects to the gas line with a 1/2" to the range. Wolf got into big problems by specifying a 1/2" line for their AG ranges last year. They discovered it really needed a 3/4" in order to have all the burners and gas oven going at the same time. So I would be safe and install the 3/4", the price difference to run a 3/4" vs 1/2" is nothing. If you already have a 1/2" in place, then I would probably try it out and see how it works (please post and let everyone know). One thing that is a pain with the BS is in their spec's they also say you cannot have anything combustible within 36" of the top of the range. So if you have cabinets that are the standard 30" above the range top, they are not ok. Plus the specs also say you need a 36" hood fan (min 300cfm), with the top cabinets at least 36" apart above the range. Needless to say, we passed the gas inspection for the gas pipe, but we have to rip out our above range cabinets to pass the rest of the inspection (not a biggy in my case, since we're ripping them all out in a couple of months). But if you were just replacing a range and needed the gas inspector to come in, it could cost you some serious $$$$ to meet the requirements that BS put in their installation manual....See MoreNeed expert's opinion on vinyl sheet choice
Comments (6)I wouldn't order sight unseen either. it is a good way to see options and weed out the real 'nos'. I have also found that often what i like online, I do not like in real. some that look beigey online are more toward the pinky/blush color in real etc. I am using it to make a list of what i want to see when I go to a major flooring store tho. I'd buy from a local store also. i noticed a few rather nice ones (plain and more beige/gold in color) on Armstrong in the past few days that I do not remember seeing there even 1 month ago! hopefully 1 or 2 of those will be ok when i see them in real. who knew picking this stuff out would be so much work and so time consuming? I didn't! lol! I am limiting myself to sheet vinyl that can be floated tho. seems easiest and best for me - and no glue smell! good luck with yours....See MoreNeed expert guidance for a new HVAC system
Comments (34)Guys, I have gotten stuck in between two systems for my final decision. Please help me out to pick the right one. I am trying to decide in between these two ; #1 - Bryant 6129135 Active Systems BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS PERFORMANCE 13 PURON HP BRYANT HEATING AND COOLING SYSTEMS 286BNA048****B CNPV*4821AL*+UI 1300 1040 315(A,J)AV048090 45500 11.50 15.50 46000 8.20 29600 1 HRCU-A-CB 355 1140 also includes - Evolution touchscreen thermostat and comes with free Bryant Air purifier - one year test drive - I don't know how it works but they say they will provide 100% refund if I am not satisfied with the system within a year from the installation date #2 - Trane 5768796 Active Systems XR17 TRANE 4TWR7048A1 4TXCD063BC3 1370 1090 *UD2C080B9V4 48000 12.50 17.00 45500 9.00 30400 1 HRCU-A-CB 342 1077 Yes Not include thermostat. will use exiting HW VP IAQ includes GPS-2400 plasma air cleaner price wise the Trane is roughly $200 more expensive than the Bryant after the tax credit is deducted Both contractor will add two returns and one supply and will fix the distribution issues in my current duct work. Based on the notion I got; both contractors are very capable and have very good reputation I am more inclined to Bryant due to evolution controls. I do know Trane is very reliable and efficiency wise it is a little more efficient compared to the Bryant system. to me $200 difference in price is very negligible. I just want to make right decision. I got stuck! PLEASE HELP......See Morebeth09
