Opinions needed for my curtain color
Comments (34)patty_cakes - I did think of making my own. Since I am using rings, I'd probably go with the iron pipe idea. However, I am think that after adding everything up, unless I couldn't get the length I needed (I was counting the finials into that measurement which will have to be short due to the wall corners. I would like as much curtain coverage between the window and corner wall.)that ready made would be cheaper. That is, if I can find a deal! Oh, funny that you mentioned "gold leaf." I was reading Southern Living in bed last night and a home had long gold panels hung from clips. The curtain rods were shiny brass, and I had a thought that perhaps antique brass would look good with my curtains. I had thought oil rubbed bronze, but that kind of clashes with my wood bedpost. Black is out, as is shiny brass. My ceiling fan is dark cherrywood, with an oil bronze look, but also has a medallion of bronze (antique brass)look. What do you think? rocky08 - I looked at Target, too. I'll check them out for rods, though. BTW - With the discount coupons and the tax incentive that JCPenny was running, I ended up getting the $34.99 curtain panel for $27 including tax! To compare, the 84" were advertised at $29.99, so the end result for that length would have been around $21. For the weight, 95"length, look and feel of these curtains, I think I did pretty well. :) bonnieann925 and cattknap - Thank you! I am pleased now. Took me a while. I'll be sure and post the end result when they are hung. I'll start the rod hunt after my weekend....See MoreI Need Your opinions....
Comments (54)Steve I wish I would have read or noticed you have textured walls I would have had you try a technique I learned when painting stripes. Granted I did this on smooth walls so no guarantee it'll work, but it's worth trying it on a sample area. These rules are based on you leaving your gables the existing color and that you have some of that paint left over. Here goes.... Step 1. Tape your walls making sure to burnish tape with your thumbnail or other similar object (flexable yet sturdy). Doesn't have to be perfect. Using the same paint color you are going over (in your case your current wall color) and a narrow roller thoroughly paint over the edge of the tape that will be next to new color. Let dry according to directions on can. Step 2. Making sure other paint is completely dry and covering all edges of tape paint with new color. Let dry. Step 3. Once paint is dry you'll want to lightly score using an exacto knife along tape line if latex paint was used since it has a tendency to plastisize and you may pull off more than you intend to. Once scored carefully remove painters tape at a 45 degree angle. Here's a picture of my smooth walls that I did stripes on. Like I said, do a sample area first to make sure it works on your textured walls. Good Luck!...See MoreNeed opinions on curtain rod.... pics....
Comments (2)I would match the metals on the light fixture or cabinet pulls. Just because they are what you look at right when you are looking at the kitchen side of the room. You might get the panels ready, and then see how they look with the existing rods, and also with metal rods, and see which you prefer. That way you won't be second-guessing yourself. I would not be above taking down the rod in the LR, taking those curtains off, adding on the new panels for the slider, and taping it above the slider to see what I thought. (******warning...I do this when DH is not around, because this kind of thing drives him crazy. Ask a friend to come over for coffee and help you when DH will be out****) I am a big "tape it up and look" person....See MoreCurtain Advice! Curtains or Blinds? Opinions Needed!
Comments (8)This question frequently comes up. It is such a personal decision based on whether or not you need heat/light/privacy control. Do you open your windows? Do you want to see your view? What kind of look do you prefer? I do not use any shades that can be seen during the day. They come down in the bathrooms after dark. I greatly dislike shades that cover the windows 24/7. How do your window treatments look from the outside? I always prefer curtains or shutters because I like that look. Dark blinds or shades create a cave-like feeling. Do you want light/bright interiors?...See MoreSJS Interiors
