Is anyone else NOT ready for Christmas?
Comments (17)Oh Deb, I'm sorry Jessica isn't home, that must put a damper on your holiday. You & David need to start a new holiday tradition so you'll have something to look forward to (a little weekend getaway? B&B? Fancy dinner on Christmas Eve?). Hope your mother is doing well & enjoying the season. My shopping is DONE! With DD in middle school this year I wasn't going to purchase teacher gifts -- she has eight teachers!-- but the social studies teacher organized a field trip taking all the sixth graders to see the Statue of Liberty. Bless the man, they spent ten hours on a bus! Eight sixty person busses actually, 480 kids and parents participated. He's getting a Borders gift card. Yes, he deserves adult beverages but the kiddo can't take that to school. Christmas dinner is still in the planning stages, DH is vacillating between turkey and ham. So once a decision is made, I need to grocery shop. Baking I enjoy, that's not a chore at all. We tried a new pecan pie recipe from Southern Living at Thanksgiving and it just wasn't right, so the old faithful pecan pie will appear at Christmas. Happy holidays! Comments (19)I'm doing fine. I went into the doctor after a couple months of feeling very fatigued, constant headaches, shortness of breath , light headed spells -up to the point that I thought I would faint, memory confusion, and bleeding gums. (I was having trouble working a 40 hour work week) When I was younger, they told me that I would probably be diabetic by the time I hit 40, so I assumed that it was possibly that. I insisted on blood work. Then the clinic phoned me 2 times the that week to come in to see my doctor. Then they phoned back and tried to book me in for a complete medical. (I'm starting to panic a bit). But with my doctors schedule and mine I didn't go in until a week after I had the blood work taken. I found out that my WBC had sky rocketed. I had no symtoms of any infection, so my doctor starts to get frustrated and she was showing panic. She was checking my lympnodes.(I'm starting to stress and PANIC) She did put me on antbiotics. I then developed a tenderness in my left lower abdomen. Then the doctor said that they should maybe send me to a blood specialist.(MORE STRESS) I then tried a different antibiotic and the WBC started to lower. If you check out symptons of Leukemia, you'll see why I was getting scared. I'm feeling much better now and I hope it stays that way. I have no idea what actually was wrong. Just a glitch in my body possibly telling me to slow down a bit. Shelley...See MoreLiving Christmas Tree project (R.YEW.Crazy?)
Comments (30)Et Voila! Our lady is in her new home! Moved & planted her yesterday! 1/5/13 1. Dug out 4" of snow to uncover hole and work area. 2. Moved tree & the saved soil & tools to work area. 3. Popped out mulch from pre-dug target hole. 4. Fought to free tree from container (frozen 1" of soil). 5. Cut away burlap, plunked her in, covered with soil, potting mix, a little mulch. 6. Watered thoroughly. I had "hardened" or acclimatized the tree to cold temps with 4 nights in the barn. It had been below freezing, but at least not windy in the barn. Top inch of soil in the container had frozen, so difficult to free tree from container, but elbow grease and patience won in end. I probably second-guessed the location of the hole a few times, but too late. She looks great where she is. Needles still green, moist. This tree looks like it never moved anywhere. She has a stockade fence on her windy side, so that'll help protect her. I have her lashed to the fence for a little first season support, too. Looks much smaller in the yard than in the house! But would be an expensive purchase at the nursery if I bought a new one this size. [Hit the project link below to see all the pictures.] Payoff: Feels fantastic not to be throwing out a dried out old pine on top of the pine & tinsel remains at the Town Dump. We can look at that tree next summer and know it had a star atop it on Dec 25. I very much appreciate your excellent tips that gave me confidence to proceed on this adventure. I'll update when I see new growth in the spring. Meanwhile feel free to add in any more tips as to care, feeding, nurturing of a conifer such as this. Comments (27)Judithva, Thanks, I'm glad you like the plates. I can't seem to find them any where so I will only have a set of four. If you let me know when your coming, I will leave milk and cookies for you!LOL I will work on the birdcage and see if I can do more with it. I think I have a metal one somewhere in the shop so maybe next year I'll dig it out too. Luvs, I think a red cardinal would look good with the dishes. I went and looked at Karens last years pictures. Maybe if I'd go help her with her decorations she would give me her cardinal. Do you remember hers? If not go take a look, it's neat. Syble, thanks, I received the S & P shakers for a gift. They are bicentennial, so quite old but still beautiful. Our home is tan and white so any color works. Your pink is beautiful so enjoy it. Gldnfan, thanks for your comments. I'll keep watching for your decorations. Enjoyed your story about putting your tree out for the birds. You won't have to lurk no more. Come and join the fun whenever you have time. Gail, thanks so much and have you been away for awhile? Hope all is well with you. This is fun to read all the different comments and it goes to show we all have alittle different tastes which is a good thing. Thanks everyone for all the help. I truly enjoy all of you here.
