need backsplash ideas for open kitchen/ cinnamon cabinets/beige quartz
Comments (39)Thanks mayflowers. I am sure people are tired of looking at my kitchen at this point, but this is such a hard decision, because it is so permanent! The two ideas I am now considering are: (1) your idea of cream tile matching the wall color (though I cannot really find one that truly comes close to the wall color) and (2) still considering a sage green tile, but I feel like that may take away from my green shelves. I am considering square, rectangular sizes/ different layouts of tiles at this point at this point. as for area, I am just considering doing the area under the wall from the cabinet to the left of the stove to under the microwave. May or may not run it up in the corner to the first green shelf. I am also going to leave the area in the third picture without a backsplash (the pic with the glass cabinets)....See MoreIdeas? Comments (20)This: "It may not be the most attractive pantry out there, but it’s functional. It doesn’t need to look like a magazine photo." So smart! People get hung up on the Pinterest-worthy "organization" pictures, but more of those aren't -really- organized; they're pretty-fied. I'm so glad fo ryou, that you're able to focus on the functionality. Lazy_gardens highlighted one of my own main themes: too much space between shelves. Brilliant solution, your shoe shelves! And this: "We became empty-nesters and I had not kept pace with the decreasing demand. My daughter was a late-night impulse baker and I’d kept things on hand for her." I think this happens to us all. That we have one paradigm, and then when life changes for us, we are slow to update. You've gotten a big head start on redefining your storage. I'm in admiration of this: "The only place where I retained the stacking bins was on the shallow wall-mounted shelves. They were already working for what I used them for" Good for you, for recognizing something that's working, and not tossing it out just because....See MoreAdvice needed on small open kitchen layout in EU Apartment
Comments (4)So I like your ideas. I would definitely talk with a contractor and then a kitchen designer. My whole concept hinges on whether you could change the glass wall/doors so that the doors are on the other side. If it’s a whole unit (which it look like it is) you may be able to take it out and flip it upside down. So then what you would be able to do is run cabinetry all the way down and possibly build in the rad. Give a seamless look and takes advantage of all the vertical wall space for storage. Also the sofa would be jammed in the that area giving you a better view of the outside and there wouldn’t be any glare on your tv. It also allows for the peninsula to be a little further down which would allow the addition of a microwave cabinet which could be put on the end with the pantry next to that so it won’t encroach in the doorway. It also allows more room in the kitchen for two people. And I’ll also mention that the sectional I’m showing is really deep. Unfortunately, the program I’m using doesn’t allow me to change the size but you could go with something smaller in scale....See MoreVisible? 1/2-1" misalignment b/w hood and range; top & bottom cabinets
Comments (16)OK. I'm posting my updated drawing of the floor plan along with an old computerized one a designer did for me that has a lot of things off. Also, here's her picture of the main part of the kitchen. In the unpictured side of the kitchen, the current plan is to put a corner window bench and small table plus recessed shelving/cabinetry in the wall to the dining room (that gets complicated, but it's probably just important to know where that wall is - namely the surface facing the dining room is 12" to the right of the window; how thick that wall is depends on where it starts relative to the window in the kitchen, but it currently starts 7" to the right of it). *edited to add a rendering of the "unpictured" side of the kitchen where the recessed shelving is represented as pictures plus shelves because I'm not good with tedious things. I'll add that I don't like open floor plans and we close the doors so we have separate spaces for my son to do zoom classes and such almost every day....See MoreVictor Hoffman
