We've talked about products we love. What about...
Comments (25)I like Burt's Bees shampoo & conditioner, especially the new one "Super Shiny" because it tames my dry hair. However, there was a BB's product I tried years ago that was so awful it actually caused me pain. I'm referring to the Theraputic Bath Crystals. When I put it in the bath water my skin felt like it was been burnt alive. I couldn't jump out of the water fast enough. I've read reviews where others have had the same reaction but most people don't seem to experience a problem so I guess it depends on how sensitive your skin it. Mikasa...years ago I bought a couple of their white soup bowls open stock and loved how durable they were. So was I surprised a few years later to see how much the quality had changed when I bought an extra one. Utensils left ugly marks on the bowl that didn't wash out, even a spoon was removing the finish. I thought surely this is a fluke so I got another one and the same thing happened. Don't know what Mikasa changed but that product has gone downhill since I first bought it....See MoreCan we talk about....... Rice?
Comments (36)Annie, here's the recipe for the rice with beets. It's a good side dish for venison. BEET MIXTURE FOR PERSIAN PILAF 1 Tbs. olive oil 1 Tbs. minced garlic 1 1/2 cups finely minced cooked beets (about 3 small ones) 1/2 tsp. salt 2 Tbs. minced fresh dill (or 2 tsp. dried) 2 Tbs. raspberry vinegar 1 Tbs. honey Freshly ground black pepper 3 cups cooked basmati rice Heat olive oil in a small skillet. Add the garlic and cook over low heat for about 10 seconds. (DonÂt let it turn color, or it will become bitter.) Add the beets and salt, and saute for about 5 minutes longer. Remove from heat and stir in the dill, vinegar, honey, and a little black pepper to taste. Stir beet mixture into the rice....See MoreCan we talk about, ahem, bidet toilet seats?
Comments (26)Based on recommendation from Ded tired, I bought the Bio Bidet by Bemis Slim Three Smart Bidet Toilet Seat, Elongated, White from Amazon last week. It arrived yesterday, and I installed it today. It was $250 when I bought it, but I had an online coupon (from a Firefox add-on) for 10% off, and so it was $225. However, when I checked www.biobidet.com, I found that it was $200 if bought from the company, but I guess that did not include shipping. Anyway, it is now $319 at Amazon, just a week after I bought it. I do not know why the price suddenly jumped by $69, but I'm glad I bought it when I did. I like the heated water setting - I set mine on medium, and it is just right, but it could be set hotter. Installation was a bit of a pain, as the instructions (including the Youtube video) were not as complete as they should have been, but I managed anyway. Other people (from reviews) had the same problem with the top mount rubber anchors and were not able to install them, but I just squeezed them and forced them in. One thing they do not tell you is that the plug is grounded and has three prongs. Fortunately, I already had a grounded extension cord that I could use, as I do not have an outlet right next to the toilet. My W/C in Cathedral City does not have an outlet at all, and so I would not be able to use this bidet there. My one criticism of this bidet is that the water pressure could be a bit greater, but maybe there is a control for this that I have not found yet. Anyway, I would like to thank Dedtired for this recommendation! ETA: I found the control for water pressure, and it is very good now. I keep it set on medium or between medium and high....See MoreCan we talk about Mochi
Comments (17)Neely, yes, I meant the spongy rice wrapper around the filling. The shape and wrapper, or skin, is the same whether it's ice cream (frozen) or from the Japanese deli (fresh). This is only one kind of mochi, but it has penetrated to many corners of the USA, which is why I called it American. When I was a kid, one could only get them from Japanese places in the Japanese neighborhoods. Those villages are mostly integrated into the surroundings now, but a lot of the food, for better or worse, has gone mainstream. I know there's a whole panalpy of other kinds of mochi, but they're still are only in specialty stores here. The Chinese rice ball has a pebbly textured rice wrapper, rather than a rice dough one, and is usually covered in sesame seeds. Oh, and they're fried and oily. If you had really good fresh ones, you'd probably like them. :)...See Moreartemis_ma
