Ist time renovator looking for kitchen inspiration
Comments (21)Thanks so much for the help! All the photos have elements of what I'm looking for Boxerpups, floor - I would love to run my wood into the kitchen but know we will be harder on it than most people and it is soft birch. You will see it in the attached family room so I have to take it into consideration. Tile is the best choice an we're thinking a large tile such as a porcelain slate as long as I can find something with a muted warm tones that is not too busy looking. So far no luck but I have a picture of a mudroom tile from an old magazine I love. I'll try to post it. Cabinets - I think mostly cream with painted island or all lowers painted different colors . The cabinets in the fourth photo with the bleached floors are perfect. counters - I think brown tones but I love grey ( husband not so much) #1 - love but too modern overall #3 - great mix of natural elements with fun color #4 - love cabs, counters, stools #5 - love lighting, stools rustic table with modern chairs, otherwise a bit too fussy #7 - great colors, beautiful backsplash. #13 - great clean look All others nice but but bit too traditional - Honeysuckle vine -I looooove the tile in the first caesarstone photo. I agree a bit dark otherwise but overall a great look. I think I have to get the floor sorted out and go from there. The next most important will be the tile since I want something really great. Comments (23)Here's my drop-in sink tip - some sinks marketed as undermounts are actually installable as drop-in! I really love my new single bowl undermount 25" Ruvati sink: http://www.efaucets.com/detail.asp?Product_Id=RVM4130 $192 It is 16 gauge 304 steel and made in China. I found out after buying it that it can be mounted undermount or topmount - right now it's temporarily installed topmount and looks fine. The flange has a finished edge and the surface is the same finish as the inside of the sink. It includes a sturdy rinse grid, a really nice basket strainer assembly, and it has a good soundproofing pad on the bottom. The drain is slightly to the back which gives me more space under the sink for a trash organizer. My ultra-picky husband was impressed. I am not one who wants to see my reflection in my sink so I can't comment on whether it shows water spots or not because I don't fuss about those things. I do love the rounded corners for ease of cleaning. It is replacing a wider double bowl sink but I'm so happy to have a single sink now! If I want division I can always use a separate tub in the sink but right now I love the larger space - especially as my faucet is higher and more powerful now. If you want something bigger you could consider this: http://www.efaucets.com/detail.asp?Product_Id=RVM4200 $249 - but not sure if it's in stock anywhere Here's a double bowl version: Ruvati RVM4300 Undermount 16 Gauge 32" Kitchen Sink Double Bowl http://www.ruvati.com/product-p/rvm4300.htm...See MoreKitchen Backsplash Woes- advice needed
Comments (15)Thanks for all the comments so far. I will admit some of the remaining issues I may not have noticed much if the overall job had been better to start. However it was initially much worse- this is the improved version after the most obvious stuff has been fixed. So in all fairness there may be some of the whole, "once you notice it, it stands out more" scenario going on. That being said, given there are so many remaining little issues (below are a few more examples, but still not all) is why I'm still leaning towards asking for further repairs or a re-do. I'd welcome any further thoughts though. (I really do want to be reasonable.) Is it really unreasonable to want to be satisfied with something so "in your face every day" after spending hundreds of thousands though? Plus as London Staging and Design, LLC mentioned, the tile being an issue at re-sell is also a very real concern. Oh, for those that mentioned the tile was a poor selection- we didn't pick the tile. The tile wasn't up, but was already selected by the builder by the time we put an offer on the house. Thanks again....See Morecabinetry crown will stick out from soffit
Comments (20)Oh boy. My best solution is to have the soffit re-framed to fit the molding. Your kitchen looks like a higher end kitchen and mistakes like this will cheapen and distract from your beautiful cabinets. A last resort would be to bury the cabinets into the wall to gain the inches you need to fit the molding and not touching the soffit. Speak to your builder and installer if this can be done. All depends on what is behind the back wall. good luck and let us know how it works out....See MorePatricia Colwell Consulting
