Need help finding a light tan paint

Can any suggest a very light tan or off-white that pairs well with Valspar Ounce of Silver and Benjamin Moore's White Dove?

I'm going for a coastal vibe in my bathroom. It doesn't get a lot of natural light. I had planned to use BM Cream Fleece since I love it in my friends house. In my space it's way too dark, though. BM Muslin is also too dark.

The painters have already started so I'll need to pick something by morning.

Can't speak for going with the Valspar color, but I have used SW Softer Tan.

Hi My3dogs,

I grabbed my fandeck and it looks like SW Softer Tan is about the same LRV as BM Cream Fleece. It's very pretty but I think I need to go 1 step lighter.

You might want to take a look at BM Barley. It's a light gold that looks good with red/burgandy accessories and dark wood. I collected a lot of color names from finished kitchens on here, then went to the store and brought home all the color chips. Some looked very different in MY kitchen than on the computer screen. I couldn't have done it without tossing the chips on the floor and sticking them up on the walls.

I used a lot of tans/beiges in my house. I don't have pix, but you can go to the Benjamin Moore site and see the colors in rooms there. I used BM Carrington Beige (HC-93) at 50% in the family room; I used Bleeker Beige (HC-80) in my dining room (although I think this one is a bit grey). Another good, but very light, color is BM French White (#1093). I think the HC-93 is the closest color to what you're describing. If I can get pictures I'll post them. Good luck!

Have you looked at Alabaster? Different rooms are going to show differently with lighting by day then by night. Best thing to do is select a couple of the colors you favor and get a couple of poster board cut in to 4's and leave the outer edge of the poster board white so your eyes don't play tricks on you. That is really the only way you will know if it turns green, blue or other in your particular space. I do love Shoji White. Shoji White is the perfect warm white with a gray undertone; it looks beautiful with wood or metal finishes. Yet, you need to see how it looks in your space even though it's under construction. If you have lighting in then you can see your picks placed on a few different walls so you know they don't change AM to PM lights on and off. Modern Gray is very pretty and if you find it a hint too dark given SW sells larger sample cans you can have them lighten it 25% (25% will be a very, very little bit lighter or you can do 50%) after testing it by taking the can back to them and telling them to lighten it. Concerned it might be cold, but do love the color. If you google Modern Gray by SW you will see it changes a lot in different rooms.

Need help finding bedside lights and paint color

We have this lovely little new to us lakeside cottage we are renovating and updating. So far in the main bedroom we have just replaced the icky brass ceiling fan, painted the wall behind the bed Simply White and found two sweet vintage bedside tables. But now I have some decision paralysis when it comes to the bedside lights and wall color. For the bedside lights, do I go with table top, wall sconce or ceiling mounted? I do plan on a trim detail behind the bed similar to the attached picture and the ceiling mounted lights are lovely, but I'm not sure how easily installed they are or practical for night time reading. There are outlets beside the bed on each side so a wall sconce would be possible but how close should the outlets be to the bed - you can see one just outside the bedside table I could also use some help deciding what color to paint the rest of the room. The door, hall side facing, is painted BM seaside blue which has some influence I think on the final color in the room. The inside of the bedroom door is white . Thanks for any design help in finishing this room!

Barely Beige 1066 is very similar to Cream Fleece, just lighter. Grab a chip and see if a lighter version of Cream Fleece is what you're looking for.

Jennifer, I just wanted to mention SW's Canvas Tan can be really nice. I would also look at anything Lori suggests.

I was hoping you'd stop by with a suggestion. I was just watching your videos about hues & values. My husband can see hues from a mile away but it escapes me.

Looking at my trusty fan deck I do think Barely Beige will work. My deck doesn't have LRVs so I appreciate the comparison chart.

Do you think these 3 color play well together?

If you can easily see what hue family a color belongs to, that's great. If you can't, no big deal because you can figure out what hue family a color belongs to using color values.

Thanks for the suggestion. Strangely my SW deck doesn't have Canvas Tan. It's about 10 years old so I must need a new one. Off to the store to see if they'll give me a more current deck.

Yes. Because Ounce of Silver and Barely Beige/Canvas Tan have the same pitch of value. It's not smart to use words like "always" and "absolutely" when speaking to color but it's "almost always" guaranteed to work if your colors are similar in value. Additionally, it's a comfortable mix of warm and cool

White Dove works too, it's a pretty, versatile white.

Well this is embarrassing! I didn't realize the BM index listed the LRV's - I was looking on the back of the chip expecting it to be the same as my SW fan deck. Thanks Lori

Barely Beige isn't working. It's looking a bit too warm - almost peachy. Does this sound right? I don't see anyone else commenting that BB looks this way so I'm wondering if my paint sample isn't mixed correctly.

I could also be looking at my beachy color palette wrong. Should I be leaning towards a cooler, but not too cool, off white/tan?

Any new paint color suggestions?

I'm not very familiar with neutral colors lol, and I live in northern Alberta so my light is likely very different from yours, but this summer we painted our granny suite (mostly north and west exposures, with lots of windows) BM Natural Wicker, which works well there.

Edited to add -- the trim we have with BM Natural Wicker is BM Cotton Balls...

Yeah, sounds right. Barely Beige belongs to the yellow hue family and it "lives" over close to the YR (orange) hue family. Which means - depending on the light - peachy overtones are definitely possible.

Natural Wicker is a good option to check out. Also Navajo White.
