Those of us on this site are NOT the norm. I grew up with parents that constantly maintained their home. No painted surface ever got to the point were it looked old and worn. At the other end of the spectrum, my DH grew up with parents that only replaced things once they looked like crap or were broken. They had the money, just didn't see the need to spend it until absolutely necessary. I see small and large homes that are immaculately kept and other that are neglected. It has nothing to do with the size or cost of the home, but everything to do with the priorities of the homeowners. Edited to add, that postponing the regular maintenance of a home always ends up costing you more, so it isn't just about not spending the money, the person just doesn't see that they are being shortsighted and that the repairs/maintenance will cost twice as much when they finally get to it. But... when you are gathered around the dining table sharing a meal, you're seeing people eating, right? And for those who say it makes people watch themselves eat, well, I don't even know how to respond to that. If you watch yourself eat, that sounds like a personal problem to me. ;) Mirrors in the dining room can reflect chandelier and candle lighting, as well as the faces of loved ones. And those are all lovely things, so if you like mirrors in your dining room, you shouldn't hesitate to use them. Just make sure they're attractive in their own right.

They might(large scale prints) You're right-it's not too big per se, the dimensions are fine..if it was airier. Right now seems a tad heavy. Nevertheless it's a beautful room..if you have opportunity to furnish it first, add art you had in mind, etc(and I'd put the art where the mirror is, because mirror reflects chandelier you're not sure about-so now it's two of them..)) I'd leave it until I see it all coming together, and would decide then. If you have time constrictions(returning deadline or something)-it's easy to fall in love with many chandeliers but then you find the one you marry so to say. Do you have another in mind you love enough "to marry"? Don't forget also-you just recently put it in..sometimes things need getting used to.
