Lighting Design Dilemma dining room

Looking for a large oval drum chandelier for a dining room

Been looking everywhere and found pictures but nothing actually for sale . Anyone seen one for sale anywhere or have tips as to where to go looking?

Does it have to be exactly the same? I googled large oval drum shade chandeier and found tons.

Thanks! Most of the ones I found are round, not oval, or are too small for our relatively large table and dining room. Let me know if you find any actual OVAL ones, with this drum style

I would look for something newer and fresher than either the original or the black chandelier, maybe a light with a drum shade? The black does not add anything to the table and chairs and built-INS, both of which are lovely, btw. Trying to update with a type of chandelier (black one) that already looks dated is a waste of money. You don't have anything else in the room that says wrought iron rustic, transitional/country bronze or any of the other types of rooms a chandelier like that would complement. It's often easier to update traditional decor with some piece or element that is a little more modern than you would normally select---it makes the room seem updated and fresh while remaining traditional. I'm not. Expressing this very well, I am afraid. . . . Just speaking from a perspective of one who has very traditional tastes but is faced with the same issue-----updating for a newer look.

yes, it will be (as someone who spent long time calculating light dimensions for standard ceilings for her own dining room ) you might have the width(will be very big)..your dining seems pretty big..I think you don't have the height to pull it off 8 feet ceiling-you have 96 inches allover correct? you need minimum 12' of these to go into chain..(canopy will add smth marginally too.) Let's round it down say it'a 12 '..and your height of chandelier without the chain is 33'..at a very minimum there are your 45 inches. It's visually light so lets say you can allow it be 29, 28 over the table? (usually 30-32..but I believe the shape here is forgiving and can be closer). so okay let's even make it (doubtful) 28'..28' plus minimum 45' of chandelier plus chain leave us with 73 inches used already. We had 96. 96-73=23. Dining table height is usually 30 inches. You'll try to force this beautiful piece-and it won't work. You can try and find smaller piece..or some companies customise..change proportions so it'll work in your space(well until a certain degree). But it comes with upcharge. Everybody's welcome to point out where I grossly miscalculated..

We'd still be open to removing them if it weren't for the tile we've already installed around them on the floors. Removing the column plinths would mean an awkward tile grout line in the floor at each of the 4 column locations. My concern for the space would be that decorating "around" the columns and arches will be even more awkward and hampering. However safe and less ornate, whatever striking, beautiful elements -- lighting, furniture, art, accessories -- you put anywhere in the vicinity will be overwhelmed and minimized by the columns and arches. Without the competing (and winning) arches and columns in the room, a group of lights, whether glass or linen drum pendants, over the right table could be stunning. You can spend money trying to decorate "around" something like arches and columns, but in my experience you'd spend more on such an unsuccessful effort than on just removing the awkward and unhelpful element and moving forward with a cleaner slate.

Hi Michelle P,

Might be a good idea to consider getting a custom chandelier, if you absolutely want an oval-shaped one with a drum shade. Oval isn't that common of a shape for a chandelier.
