Comments (6)What a bathroom! What a neat tub and sink! Is this a vacation home or permanent? I'm not sure it matters but it would work better for a vacation home (psychologically anyway), but what about doing the tub/shower plumbing like an old clawfoot with shower added? Full surround shower curtain (or just two sides if you want to redo the tile nice and watertight I guess) with the showerhead piped openly from the lower plumbing and attached to the curtain rod? Wrong terms, I know, but maybe you know what I mean. LIke the one linked below (cheaper versions and different configurations are available--this was just a quick google.) I'd guess there used to be a thicker floor that was removed and nobody bothered to tell the toilet. If you're really being cheap, you could maybe get away with a lot of paint on the cabinets and curtains over the missing doors, but the cabinets would have to be sturdy enough to keep for that to work. Crisp white tile is inexpensive and you CAN put tile on a piece of plywood for the removable countertop. It'll be heavy enough you won't need to anchor it. Maybe you can DIY drywalling the ceiling. Comments (7)I totally understand your concerns about maintaining congruity with the era of the house. My personal feeling is the the mix of old and new is what makes design interesting. I'm not a fan of walking into say an all modern room in a vintage home. It's jarring. But intentionally integrating a modern element into a more traditional space can be the spark that "makes" it. So, for your bathroom, the larger hex can be a "riff" on the classic tile - that updates it while playing homage to the house's era. At the same time, the use of a solid blue on the floor is already a more modern use of the material. So you could go with a smaller blue hex rather than the larger. I would choose your grout very carefully. I personally don't like a ton of contrast between the tile color and the grout. It just looks really busy to my eye. I also am imminently practical and would never put white grout on a floor. Something in the medium gray range would probably work best but I would have your tile installer make you up a couple sample boards once you get to that point. 6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoThe liquid poultice did a decent job. Got the blue 80% out. Tested a small area with the Miracle powdered poultice and that worked great!
First photo is after the liquid poultice. Second is the current state of my shower floor. We are letting it sit for 48 hours. I promise to post the final result!

6 years agolast modified: 6 years agoI thought I had the solution in hand... the poultice seemed to have solved the problem - no more blue.
But, as I was removing the most recent poultice application, I noticed that the spots I had initially treated Thursday-Friday (that I thought were gone) are back... they took over 25 hours to re-emerge. I don’t know why...
**UPDATE**: We think the culprit it the Thymolphthalein blue agent in the kaboom that functions like invisible ink. The poultice dries it out combating the ph balance, but when humidity returns so does the stain.
Will likely do another few rounds of the poultice and hope that takes care of our “smurf” spots.

2 years agoSo I chose not to take a before photo of mine because it was the floor around my boys’ toilet. So yeah you can imagine. Here is the after photo though. Like it never happened!
