furniture: where can I find something like this?
Comments (33)Thanks all for the suggestions! I've been checking consignment stores and Craigslist (Donna--you're setting me up for the CL fail thread, aren't you? hehe!) for wall units and related things. I don't mind used (textiles excluded) and I'm happier with more vintage styles anyway. I have thought about going to the local cabinet guy who has done my last two kitchens. If he doesn't do free-standing furniture he probably would know someone who does. I do know that I don't want this built in. I know I need the storage space and that isn't likely to change, but I don't know that I'll always want it in this location....See MoreCan you help me arrange furniture in my living room?
Comments (8)You have a beautiful home! Okay, from what I can tell is you have too much furniture in the room. If you have a couple of teenage boys, then keep the floral sofa for now, if not, it probably should go. lol Once you take that sofa out you can then figure a better floor plan for the leather furniture. I like the arrangement but I'd scoot the leagther sofa back to the sofa table. And maybe add a coffee table in front of the sofa. You will still have space for walking and for your little one to play. Maybe a painted wood coffee table to add a bit more color? I would take the end table/lamp out of the room, the one between the chair and wall, and add a floor lamp in the corner. With those pieces gone, you can turn the clock to face the TV, but centered in the small wall space near the stairs. Rooms need to have a bit of airiness to keep from feeling crowded/claustrophobic. I've been in your situation before and it was hard getting rid of pieces I liked, but once I did we felt a lot more comfortable!...See MoreI find our living room awkward. How can I maximise the space?
Comments (20)I think I would also move the TV to the 9'3" wall as Barnes Custom Builders suggested. I would then move your couch to the 5'11" wall (pulling it away from the wall so the vent can function). Then, I would flank the chunky chair to the left side of the couch. I would purchase a TV credenza and mount TV above. I would then fill the previous TV location with a credenza with a lamp and a mirror. I would also get a single large piece of artwork for the 11'9" wall. I would get rid of the bent wood chair as you suggested. Here's an option for a rug, credenza, media console, lamp and mirror... Comments (103)Stay with it Keli O, i had some of same issues wanting to make my living room more of what makes me happy and keeping a lot of what I love but using the furniture in a better way. These current and other willing and so very talented people helped me to the utmost, to say the least. I love what has happened to my new living room, still need to make some suggested changes to curtains and accessories, but so more than happy with the outcome. Could not have ever ever been able to make the changes myself, cannot say enough about HOUZZ helpers and patients they had with me. Yea, lol, i was moving and changing and re-arranging night and day, even stood on my head and jumped through a hoop but it was necessary and so worth it, ok I put in my 2 cents....looking good...See Morebeckysharp Reinstate SW Unconditionally
