Can't decide between black granite options...please help!
Comments (12)I like Cambrian black that lascatx mentioned also. It was one that I was gravitating to. Then I saw a black granite called "Blue in the Night" and I think it also goes by "Blue Polare". It is a black granite - very black - but with some cobalt blue inclusions. In mine, the blue inclusions are like confetti rice. I also picked a piece with a quartz vein running through it - I haven't seen quartz veins in other BP/BNight granites since. Here is a picture showing the granite. I must tell you that I needed a flash and to standing up on a chair right over my granite to get this much detail. The little glints here and there are the blue inclusions: A close up shot of the granite so you can see what I mean by the blue confetti: I'm also including some pictures of my kitchen so you can see how black the granite looks nominally: It is in good light, as you walk by it that the cobalt blue flecks flash at you as they catch the light right....See MoreStill can't decide on island depth - please help me!
Comments (11)My DH pondered your responses and looked again at the space with the island taped out. We have 3'7" on aisle walkway with two stools underneath island - we can increase that amount to 3'10" by moving 3" which gives us 3'3" on the other side where our shaw sink and DW are located. Remember on that wall we have to the right of shaw sink the DW a bit of counterspace then it jogs R to the east wall. To the left of the sink are 2-3 banks of drawers and then it opens up into DR. The only claustrophobic area if we minimize clearance on sink side would be only to the right of the sink. Remember, the island which is directly opposite & is decreasing in length by 6" so there is more clearance between range, aisle to sink,DW and garage door. Hope this articulates what this looks like. To summarize, we will chop off the end of the island by 6" to create more space around the range, island, garage door. We will move the entire island towards sink side, AWAY from appliance & pantry by 3". DH will raise height of island from countertop height to an inch or two above that to create better visual interest between long island and long countertop on sink side. This is the best we could come up with. We did not have this discussion regarding clearances with our KD and that was a huge oversight on our part and hers. We have to work with what we've got. DH does not want to give up seating at island as that's what is driving the entire design from his standpoint. He envisions sitting there, drinking a cup of coffee and looking out our new thee bank of windows. It almost looks like living in a treehouse as we're up on the second floor and have many deciduous trees in the back yard with an open lot right next to us. Feels very private. If I could figure out photobucket, I'd take a pic of the plans I just found and post them. I've opened up an account before and that's as far as I got. Thank you so much, all of you, for your feedback. Lisa...See MoreCan't Decide Between 2 Granites
Comments (12)Thanks for all the comments. This has been our home for 40 years and will be till they carry us out. I have waited decades to have a nice bathroom and I'm not afraid to put something a bit bold in it. The entire bathroom is neutral so I think it needs one shot of colour or character. So long as I can find nice towels over time to go with those colours. I think DH loves the Fusion the best and its what we first fell in love with. Then the granite people wouldn't let us use the slab we initially saw because it is just a small piece and they wanted us to take from an already cut slab. So we started looking elsewhere and fell in love with the Greenpeace also. In the end we fell in love with this part of the already cut Fusion slab. I just had to re\-adjust my thinking from what we first saw. The duller centre will be cut for the sink and the edges utilized for backsplash just to get a little more of it. It is still soft gentle swirls so I am not afraid of the colours. We did our kitchen in Titanium granite a couple years ago and we still are in love with it. The entire slab of Fusion is gorgeous but maybe a large area would be too much for a lot of people. If we were re-doing our TV room now I would love it around our fireplace but that is not going to happen in the near future....See MoreCan't Decide about Quartz on my Island
Comments (2)Although there is a pattern in your quartz, it's the sort of pattern that gives the visual of a solid. I don't think it would make your kitchen look too busy. OTOH, your kitchen has that farmhouse charm the way it is. You could go either way and not make a mistake....See MoreAqua Kitchen and Bath Design Center
