Grass clippings in yard waste container getting soggy and stinky

This may not be the right place to post so I'm also posting in the composting forum.

I live in a subdivision with a smallish yard not really adequate for gardening and/or composting; however, our city does offer yard waste recycling, which is great. I mulch the entire yard except around the landscaping, so I end up with approximately one lawnmower bag of grass each week -- not much.

The issue is the grass begins breaking down in less than a week. It starts to stink and make a mess at the bottom of the yard waste container. Can I put something in the bottom of the container to avoid this issue?

This is not an issue in the fall as I do shred leaves and put them in before the grass. The issue is in the spring/summer when the organic brown material is not easily accessible. One solution would be using biodegradable bags and maybe that's easier.

Thanks!
