Raised as a reform Jew in Los Angeles, the 37-year-old star received a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish studies from the University of California Los Angeles in 2000 and earned her doctorate in neuroscience in 2007 from UCLA. Bialik is the co-founder and chair of the youth branch of the Jewish Free Loan Association (Genesis) and regularly on a variety of topics, including her journey to embracing traditional Jewish values. Comments (18)Every entertainment product is "for profit". Even "non-profit" ones like NPR or PBS. No one works for nothing. As above, I don't watch the show regularly but I have at times in the past (as when my kid's friend was on). Frequently there's a clue, sometimes in the category title and sometimes in the brief words given, that provides a hint for what the answer is. The more successful contestants seem to be attentive to them. One example I've just made up might be in the category of Flowers, the question "Long Civil War in England" for which the response would be "What is War of the Roses". Answering the question successfully can be more a matter of solving the clue, not necessarily as in this case a mastery of English history. I recall several times seeing what appeared to be guesses offered in response that seemed like the contestant was acting on the clue, not a recollection of the subject matter. Like many "contests", there's an element of gamesmanship that can contribute to doing well and I think careful attention to the clues is among the tactics that make a difference....See MoreA. Comments (14)I can't imagine a Jeopardy fan watching only when their favorite is hosting. As many here know, I find Mayim irritating at times, but I'm still a faithful viewer. The show is all about the contestants and the questions. I mean answers. :-) I read the article Dedtired linked above, and all the expansive changes planned for the Jeopardy! brand make me a little uneasy. I like the idea of a prime-time Celebrity Jeopardy, but I wonder how they're going to fit so many special events into the regular schedule. It almost sounds as though the current success of the show went to the producer's head, and now he's thinking big. But bigger isn't always better. By the way, I noticed when Ken is hosting there's no little pause between a contestant giving their answer to a Daily Double and the host responding. Maybe because Mayim is new they want to confirm the answer for her before she says anything....See More
