Comments (29)"Actress Mayim Bialik makes her Orthodoxy work for her, especially in terms of style. “For me it’s more the aspects of the ‘red carpet’ and needing to wear designer clothes that are strapless, and all those things that I don’t do and that are actually extremely stressful and difficult to work around because it is a big part of the industry,” Bialik told the Jerusalem Post about the relationship between her style and beliefs. At an event at the Osher Marin JCC in San Rafael, California, Bialik spoke about Jewish life in Hollywood and the Jewish values she keeps, including modesty. Bialik does not wear pants outside of her home. She covers her elbows, her skirts are at least knee-length and she doesn’t wear anything with a plunging neckline. Bialik, best known for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler on CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory,” manages to follow tzniut (laws of modesty) while still looking beautiful and chic in the latest trends. Raised as a reform Jew in Los Angeles, the 37-year-old star received a bachelor’s degree in neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish studies from the University of California Los Angeles in 2000 and earned her doctorate in neuroscience in 2007 from UCLA. Bialik is the co-founder and chair of the youth branch of the Jewish Free Loan Association (Genesis) and regularly on a variety of topics, including her journey to embracing traditional Jewish values. She studies Jewish texts weekly with two study partners." http://jstylemagazine.com/mayim-bialiks-mordern-orthodox-style/...See MoreJust when I was getting used to Mayim Bialik on Jeopardy . . .
Comments (45)I agree with Alisande - I would comment if it were a male too. If Ken Jennings came out in denims and a flannel shirt I'd definitely make a comment. I watch Jeopardy nearly every evening and I think she's doing a great job. I like her delivery, she has a friendly manner, is interesting and really seems to enjoy what she's doing. However I think many of her outfits border on dowdy. There is absolutely nothing wrong with dressing conservatively. Actually I tend to dress that way too - but then again I'm not a celebrity on TV whose job is to moderate an entertainment game show....See MoreDo you watch Jeopardy!?
Comments (14)I record Jeopardy and was a few episodes behind when I saw the title of this thread, so I had to binge it so that I could read the thread! I would have loved to see an episode with Spike! While I'm sorry to see Amy go, she had an amazing run, and the show really is more interesting when there's more competition....See MoreJeopardy-Johnny Gilbert
Comments (21)$1? That's a distinction one needs to face with a sense of humor. One of my kid's college friends was on it after completing grad school and had a 3-day run as champion. We know the kid and watched the shows - it was clear from his demeanor, and also from what my kid learned from talking to him later, that he was never able to overcome being very nervous. He's a smart guy with a lifetime interest in knowledge and trivia and he had time to prepare adequately, by his own description. He might have done much better had he been able to remain calm. Whatever the outcome, his feelings afterwards were that it was a lot of fun and the fulfillment of a dream to be on the show....See More- 8 years ago
