Something I forgot to mention . . . I've noticed that Mayim sometimes (often with Daily Double questions) waits a beat before telling the contestant that his or her answer was correct. I don't know if it's intentional not. At first I thought she might be waiting for corroboration from the judges, but apparently not. I'm curious if anyone else has observed this.

Yes, I have noticed that.,Sometimes it feels like she is quickly checking the answer before responding.

That little hesitation bothers my husband - a lot - he mentions it often, which is kind of funny since he’s the type who is rarely bothered by much! I like her, and don’t much get all of the bad press over her. I like Ken fine too - I really just like the show.

Yes to the resemblance between the current champ & Amy….I couldn’t place it until this thread but thought there was something familiar about him!

I watched Jeopardy for the first time in 7 or 8 years last week, and I really like Mayim Bialik. Different, but not bad -- everyone expects the same style as the host they love the most (Trebek), but I think she's good. Also good that they a) hired a woman, and b) hired a woman who doesn't fit the traditional Hollywood-style definition of "attractive on the screen". I've long admired Bialik, even if I don't agree with her opinion on a lot of things.

I tuned in to see our local meteorologist's debut. He beat the champion..and all I thought the entire time was WOW that champion is a DUD!! He was unanimated, no inflection in his voice AT ALL. I bet the powers that be wish he would lose yesterday!! I also noticed often it seemed Bailik was slow to respond to answers--very much like she was getting cues from someone off stage. It's curious to SEE the real person after knowing them only as characters. I never understood Alex T's appeal but still it's sooo weird to have anyone else doing that job.

i noticed her pausing too and wondered if she was wearing an earpiece and waiting for confirmation from the judges.

My wife has been following Jeopardy more closely in recent months and I pass by to join her every now and then. I though Ryan was a modest and gentle man and I was sorry he had a bad day. I enjoyed him.

As far as hosts go, I don't like Mayim. She seems stiff and phony. Hopefully the producer's motivation to hire her was based on a skill and likeability assessment and not her gender. Women aren't treated as equals either when they're either discriminated against or beneficiaries of preferential bias.

Ken has a much more likeable personality and sense of humor. Compared to her, he seems much more engaged. I enjoy his humorous quips. Whether scripted or not, it suggests a down to earth personality. Mayim seems to be playing a role rather than being herself. Unless, of course, if she's a stiff and someone aloof person and what you see is what there is.

Something makes me think that the producers wanted him full time and he didn't want the gig. Maybe that's not the case.

I’m a Jeopardy fan & watch most evenings. I dont care much who hosts it. Ken or Mayim are equally fine with me. Alex was fine too, tho I think he’s been a bit overly lionized since his death. He made some inappropriate or off remarks at times, but none of us is perfect.

I’m just more interested the ”contest” than the host (as long as they aren’t a major distraction).

Ryan was a great champion. He was a great representation of ”anyman”, not some polished hollywood-type. Most of us have some sort of quirk, mannerism, appearance that would not play well, or even irritate, on tv.

Yes she wears an ear piece. There are people on the other end who decide if the answer is right. Even Alec would pause but after 30 years on the job he was very smooth. Listening and talking at the same time is a skill.

If you think that Bialek comes off as genuinely warm and down to earth as Jennings, then, for you, there's no issue. I think she's acting.

Maybe others won't share my view about these two in comparison and if not, fine.

It's quite easy for people so trained to feign or pretend to have a particular persona that really isn't how they are at all. She's an actress, after all. Pretending to be who or how she's not is her métier, after all. I think that's what I see on Jeopardy.

If you were to read transcripts from when they ran guest hosts, I bet people would struggle to find discernable differences. Same if you add back Alex. So what’s left? Looks, voice, mannerisms. Recreate the show without a human host if reacting to those is a problem.

I’ve got no problem with Mayim, but prefer Ken. She does irritate my wife though, supposedly something in the way she calls out wrong answers, I don’t see it. We both liked Couric, with me in particular not expecting to. No need to make it about gender.

I’m still holding out hope for David Ferber to host.

I missed the earlier comment suggesting maybe there was gender bias behind some opinions. I find that highly offensive, no less so than when members of minority groups react to constructive criticism or a failure to succeed in some way as demonstrating the presence of racism.

A gender bias is most certainly not involved in my preferring Ken to Bialek. Nor are looks or attire. Too bad some are so quick on the draw to suggest the presence of hateful attitudes.

I wonder what others think about the hosts correcting people's pronunciation of the answers. Often it's just a simple inflection but after they tell the contestant they are correct, (Mayim does it, I think Ken does, too), they will repeat it with their own pronunciation. I want to know how things are pronounced correctly, but sometimes it's so subtle or maybe even open to interpretation how something would be pronounced. I just find it a little condescending sometimes.
I really enjoyed Ryan, too. I especially liked him more as the days went by and little very interesting things and experiences about him were revealed. He was very humble. But I don't think I'll ever enjoy anyone as much as Mattea. I loved her! And add me to the short list of people who didn't ever get the adoration for Alex Trebeck. He was ok, but I found him cold and impersonal and awkward in his interactions with contestants.

They have always corrected pronunciation. It is a way of implying the slightly wrong pronunciation was acceptable. Sometimes the judges will not accept a pronunciation. The presenter person is not the arbiter of what is acceptable. Typically there will have been an extra letter added or some such. I have seen several programs on how Jeopardy is made and they cover all that sort of thing. Occasionally the judges get something wrong. I am always startled when that happens. One show I watched actually hung on someone loosing a chunk of money over it. But so it goes. It is a TV show.

I mentioned in another thread some weeks ago that I didn't enjoy watching when she was on. Annoying is a good word to use for how she came across.

I had a funny feeling about her when I heard her announced as (I think) a "law school tutor". A job title I'd never heard of. Neither law schools nor its students have or use tutors, to my knowledge. I also wondered how and why someone so young could have finished college, then finished law school, and would be working as a tutor and not as a lawyer.

Well, it turned out that she was an LSAT prep instructor. Format of the test and how to take it, what material to prepare for, and the like. Customers pay for insights, techniques and strategies to score well on the LSAT. The LSAT is for law school admissions what the SAT and ACT were for college admissions. Instructors receive lessons and curricula materials from their employers.

To instruct a prep class requires no legal knowledge or education. Describing it as she did must have been intended by her to inflate what she did. It's unrelated to law or law school, is usually a part time job and requires little else besides a college education. Intentional phoniness. Compare that to humble man Ryan who described his job in honest terms - he was announced to be a "ride share driver". Not a logistical fulfillment analyst, a location implementation consultant, or a transportation solutions provider.
