Yes, true. when things settle down, it us the contestants that will be the focus, not the host.

She's got some strange personal-life ideas, but she's an excellent actor and performer, and I think she'll do a great job. It would also be awesome for a woman to host, particularly since Jeopardy had some seriously outdated gendered requirements for so long.....For instance, at the insistence of producer Merv Griffin, women were not allowed onscreen wearing pants. For a long time, female contestants had to wear skirts or dresses as they walked onstage to their podiums, and when they finally consented to allow women to wear pants, contestants no longer walked across the stage (they were shown on camera only standing behind their podiums).

I like Mayim, too. But my favorite guest host was David Ferber and I hope they consider him. If Mayim stays on the daily show, though, that would be fine with me. She has developed a rhythm and that might be hard to do on special events.

I'm still in the minority, as I still find her somewhat annoying--but not as annoying as I did when she was a guest host. The humor has helped. But it hasn't overcome her somewhat androgynous, glaringly sturdy appearance, which often reminds me of her victim-shaming and things she has said about presenting a modest appearance to discourage sexual assault.

Until recently, Matt was such a nice distraction.

My thoughts on Mayim...just duplicate what Alisande said. She is too much over the top in needing to draw attention to herself.

I like her I think she doesn't get in the way which is a desirable trait for the host.

I also thought David Faber was outstanding, but I don't see him quitting his day job.

Re Merv Griffin, I think that also speaks back to the era. If I recall, contestants were more formally dressed. Suits and dresses were the norm and I don't think I recall seeing sweaters or casual clothing?

There were dress codes back then for men too - not just for women.

When I was selected as a contestant for Hollywood Squares in 1990, I had to bring five dress shirts, five ties, and five sports jackets to the filming of the show. I didn't have five different sports coats, but they told me that I could borrow one or more from some other contestants, depending on who got to go on.

Men's ties are extremely uncomfortable to wear, unless you have a very small neck - I do not.

If woman can wear pants (and I am all for this), then men should be able to wear skirts and dresses, and I am for this also. Billy Porter expressed this view on CBS Mornings a couple of days ago.

Personally, I like Mayim and have liked her since she was Blossom.

I am surprised by how much i like her as a host BUT! I can barely look at her woth those weird (in my opinion) clothes. just so odd! I read why she dresses conservatively, but i think she could at least be a little more tasteful. i know that sounds (and is, I guess) judgemental. But it drives me nuts.

and i believe that she has been dexlared the permanent host, with Ken Jennings filling in on occasion.

I think she’s doing well. She has a warmth about her and she is quick with funny responses. However, she needs some real help in the wardrobe department. After the sartorial splendor of Alex, her oddball school marm look is jolting. I’d be happy if she stays. I’m glad we had the Matt Amodio run to focus on something besides the ever changing hosts.

I think Billy Porter looks AWESOME in a dress! But his designer should be given credit for such extravagant designs....wowser.....I am soooooooooooo impressed! Maybe Mayim could borrow HIS designer...? ☺

I remember hearing Eddy Izzard saying that he was just wearing "a dress" - there aren't "men's clothes" or "women's clothes", there are just "clothes".

I was hoping for LeVar Burton. One thing I dislike about Mayim is that she does commercials that seem to lend legitimacy to a questionable product like Neuriva..

Alex did commercials for life insurance policies aimed at senior citizens that could be considered questionable, so i dont think we can pont fingers at Mayim for that..

I like Mayiam, very much. She's different and I think we need that, especially on TV where most of the women seem to see the same hair dresser and stylist. Not much variety anymore.

I remember Mayiam reluctantly being on a TV fashion make-over type of show. It was one of those ambush make-over shows. Her friends got together and had her featured on an episode to try and "unfrump" her style. I just did a quick google search and I'm not finding it unfortunately. I think Stacy Somebody (the long, lean, attractive lady with the black hair with the silver stripe upfront) might have been one of the hosts iirc.

Anyway, I remember seeing that episode and feeling bad for her, as she likes her personal style very much and didn't really want to get a fashion make-over. I may not find her style to be my style, but it's her style, and it makes her happy. That's what matters imo.

As to her supplement peddling...dh is on bottle #3 of that stuff. He has been having memory issues which affect his work. He is of the opinion that it does help somewhat. I have noticed a few times where in the past he would have trouble dredging up the name of item or person x, and now he can do this better. Whether it's real or the power of suggestion, I'll never know, but dh is pleased and has asked for bottle #4. :-)

Sorry, you're right - I said they had outdated "gendered requirements".

It's true about women "getting away" with wearing men's clothes more easily than men can wear women's clothes, and I have thought about that before -- but then I wonder why anyone would want to wear typical "women's clothes".

Not only do I almost never wear skirts or dresses, I wear mostly clothes made for men, not women. It's mostly because I can't abide Spandex, and because I'm overweight in an atypical way - so if I'm going to have my clothes altered anyway, they might as well be men's.......Men have many fewer choices than women, but their clothes (even casual clothes) are made of better material, in better quality, and usually sold at a lower cost.

I second that men have better quality clothes, for the most part. I got tired of wearing holes in my socks soon after buying new socks. I started buying boys socks (mens are too large) for myself and the difference in quality is huge. Although, I do tend to buy the wrong size on occasion since I didn't have boys myself and can't quite figure out which size I should get.

I took dd clothes shopping a couple of years ago at Kohls. We were rather disappointed in the quality in the women's section. I then guided her to the men's section knowing they get better clothes than we do, and I got her some very nice sweaters that look great and still have not fallen apart. I just got a hand-me-down of one those sweaters and I've never had a sweater of such quality, even as a cast-off it has held up well. I am enjoying my 'new' men's sweater!

Time will tell.

Her sartorial choices aren't appealing to me, but a part of me also thinks that it's great to have a woman in such a position on tv who looks more like your average everyday neighbor or co-worker.

What grates me about Mayim is her often calling an answer correct by stating "That is him." or "That is them." Eeek!!!!!! So much for her high $ edumacation. ;-)

I think she is doing a fine job; they aren't going to find a clone of Alex and I don't think anyone wants one.

As for her wardrobe, everyone is entitled to have their own personal style. I see nothing wrong with her clothing choices.

I hate the focus. I feel like people would lay off that crap if she was male. It's all about gender. I find it depressing. No one ever talks about a way a man looks, it's more about personality, or manner. One would think personality would be more important than the way they dress... But let's live antiqued ways. Let's focus on her clothes. 🙄
