I think I made a mistake with my trim colour.
I've started painting out my trim colour with BM Vanilla Milkshake. The whole front hallway trim/doors/base are complete and I'm about to start the kitchen/great room. But now I'm thinking I should've chosen a less white white, against my kitchen cabinets, which are basically the same color as the doors in this photo (that are being replaced, so not yet painted).
I am thinking of choosing a less white white for the kitchen/great room trim. The way the hallway transitions to those two rooms, the two colors would never be side by side. I think the only one who would know the difference would be me. I've had two different trim colors in the hallway for weeks (these doors, for example in the original colour, with the new white trim and nobody has even noticed.
I know it's hard to tell from photos, the colors just aren't the same as the eye sees them.
But what do you think?

6 years agoBoth nice colors, thank you. Really, the trim never abuts directly to the cabinets, the only big block of color is the pantry door, so maybe I'm overthinking it and Vanilla Milkshake is fine. I will take the cabinet down to the paint store and see if either of those colors is a better look with the cabinet color.
I am a graphic designer, so color is something I really notice, lol!

Comments (6)Thanks so much, paintguy! I think my problem may have been that after I cut in with a brush, I painted most of the ceiling with a 1" nap roller on an extension pole. ( I did get the good Purdy one.) I will say it got heavy fast, so I probably applied different pressures. Then I'd go to the ladder and shorter poles. And then, then next day to finish I used a 3/4" roller, and for touch-ups I'd grab a brush. As far as the paint not sticking by the crown, I suspect the old caulk may have been silicone? Glad to hear I don't need scaffolding! And I would call in a pro, but I thought this would be an easy enough job that I could tackle myself, and save the pros for actual construction stuff. I guess a pro would have finished long, long before I ever will, tho! So...maybe different applicators and different pressures are the problem? Sometimes in certain light it almost looks like I used different sheens, but it's all the SW ceiling paint, Wool Skein. Comments (19)It's all fun and games until somebody loses their mind...then it's a remodel! ::grin:: Mine occured with a sudden obsession that the fridge would be too wide and the door would bump the breakfast bar. I was completely wrong. It was, however, too tall. Which I missed, because I was panicking horizontally and not vertically. (I'll never make THAT mistake again! Next time I will panic equally in all directions! HAH!) Even with that little mishap I love my kitchen. I completely understand your worry, but I hope it helps to know we have all been there, and you will live through it. Now is the time for the glass of wine/margarita/cup of sleepytime tea and a breather. DH has lost all voting rights due to a late ballot submission. Comments (2)I am curious about the netting on the railing upstairs and you mention the wood look floors maybe what you are trying in all of its permutations is just the wrong choice. You seem to like deep colors so maybe that is why you find neutrals a bit blah IMO wall color is the backdrop for furnishings,art etc . I like a soft grayed/ green for walls it is neutral but still a color and thankfully not beige . Check out BM Healing Aloe or a similar color....See More- PRO
