What have I done? And what do I do now?
Comments (3)Chalk it up to a learning experience. Some people say if the ground is not frozen, you can still plant outside. And, if it was dry in the store and dry when you got it home, it was already a goner. They need to be kept watered, and they need a lot of light. You can try to save it, but they are not an indoor plant. Always check on the overall condition of the plant before you leave the store. There is a reason why it was "on sale". Here is the primer on "gift" roses: How to save a potted gift rose Also check out: questions about the winter Consider it a nice temporary decoration. If you want to try again, then next spring (early May), go find one that is fresh and has been watered. Bring it home. Follow the directions in the "How to save" thread, and plant it outside. You'll have a nice plant....See MoreDracaena....arrrrgggh. What have I done?
Comments (27)I'd be so happy to know its sunburn, Jane. Though if it is....what a weak sauce plant!! Lol Sure, it's brighter but not that much brighter. It was constantly open slats vs open shutters...sheesh. But that would make the most sense. I really don't think it was there the day before...and then the next day, this nonsense. Perhaps I should just leave it in the northern room. I moved it into the southern room about a month ago because my family room is quite dark, and it appeared to like it there. Lati, it sure sounds possible, though I haven't seen it since I don't spend all that much time in the living room. With the sun already so much lower, I suppose it could have streamed in about late afternoon. Weak sauce plant, man....See MoreWhat have I done now.....
Comments (26)Hi Phil, nice purchases there, it will be interesting to follow their progress. Where are you thinking of getting your pots from if you don't mind me asking? I find that the only type I have seen are the terracotta ones in garden centres that are not as deep as the regular plant pots we generally see, more like a half pot kind of thing. I did buy one of those oblong black ceramic bonsai pots a while ago with a matching shallow tray for one of my treasures, but I underestimated the size of the plant I had in mind for it and it was WAY too small. It's around 2x5inches, and cost over a fiver, so goodness knows what the big ones cost? Its still unused btw! I have seen little in the way of shallow planters, either plastic/terracotta/ceramic in my area that would be suitable for adeniums or any other plant come to think of it as bonsai stores are few and far between here in the sticks, in fact I have yet to see one, how about you? Comments (9)you haven't done anything bad to your kitchen; it's fine you did something to your house though: you didn't consider your flooring when choosing a stone for the countertops. The countertops are cool(and backsplash too); the flooring is very warm next to them here lies the main problem as I see it wall paint, you need to change it, of course. yet it's much easier but. I do believe. That wall paint can be found. That will go more or less with both your kitchen, new Quartz and all, and your flooring. I'd go on a site like Pinterest (which I prefer to Houzz because one can see and save things that are not about decor only..nature, city, art, movie sets, birds, flowers, people, photography, you name it..can be interiors too of course, but one's not limited by interiors, as their inspirations) and I'll try and find pictures.,of whatever it might be..that contain your colors. And see what else is in them. and how they work together. and whether can be translated to your space. My intuition tells me some whites...or blues..I'd say warmer blues but your backsplash is in a way here, frankly. You can decide to change it, will be a bit easier to find the color of paint, but it'sa hassle and cost of course. Say you find such paint. Will be a process of trial and error. which it often is. Then you use furnishings or/and accessories to tie things even more. You style. Lots of things can be taken care of with styling. You repeat cerain colors, you carry them to other spaces, different proportions..can be fabrics, finishes, many things. I love your art, your ostrich eggs..something tells me they are hiding these hints, these clues within...they're very inspirational. Don't forget them when you look for your inspiration, that's what I'm trying to say. Do check Laurel Bern's blog as suggested..hers is one of the very few(two or three max) where I went and read all archives. Took me a weekend with each, but it was a fascinating weekend each time....See MoreMignon J
