Cat sneezing blood
Comments (32)Hi everyone - I'm really hoping someone can give me some advice. My cat, Bobby, will be a year old in a few weeks, we got him at 12 weeks and he has always been very happy and healthy. However, we got a new kitten, Alfie, a week and a half ago. Alfie was 9 and a half weeks when we got him so still very young. As soon as we brought him home, we realised he was sneezing A LOT. A couple of nights ago we realised that he'd been sneezing blood! I did some research online and found this post - which has really worried me. I booked a vets appointment straight away. I then noticed, 2 days ago that Bobby had started sneezing too... not blood as far as I can tell, my he looks really poorly. I took both cats to the vets yesterday - the lady just gave them both a shot of antibiotics and said to wait and see how they are in 2 weeks - they both had temperatures of 102.5/102.9. They are both eating well/going to the loo fine and playing together but the sneezing is still bad. If it was life threatening - would Bobby have caught it?? I'm hoping it's just a little infection which will clear but I've also read that infections in cats can last a lifetime. I hate the feeling that my little Alfie may be at risk, and even more that Bobby may now also have caught something serious. I would really appreciate any advice! Comments (23)I'm having a weird sneezing issue and I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar... I'm currently battling a really bad cold. I noticed yesterday that when I would sneeze, immediately afterward it felt like I was being stabbed with thousands of hot needles around my neck, shoulders and arms. The pain is severe and only lasts a few seconds before it goes away. Sometimes this happens when I cough really hard too. I often see stars and it's worse when I'm sitting down. When I woke up this morning, my back and shoulder muscles were really sore, like the feeling after you use muscles you haven't used in a while. I just sneezed while writing this and the pain almost knocked me over but it disappears so quickly. And now my neck muscles are sore. My only thought is that since I'm sick, the coughing/sneezing is more powerful now and I must be hitting some sort of nerve? Would that cause almost immediate muscle soreness? I'm 28 with perfect blood pressure so I don't think it's related to that. Other than this cold, I'm completely healthy. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I went to the dr last night and mentioned it but he didn't really say anything about it. Thanks!...See MoreMy cat is sneezing and coughing
Comments (7)It sounds like an upper respiratory infection. It's common for cats to refuse to eat a pill that's just put in their food. Cats are smart, they know that this will taste bad. As for the pills, have you tried Pill Pockets? They are treats that wrap around the pill; most cats love them. Otherwise you'll need to pill your cat yourself. Your vet should have shown you how to do that. And I don't understand why she wasn't able to take Molly's temp, even rectally. When our vet has to do this, her assistant holds our cat and grabs him very firmly by the scruff of his neck. He goes rigid and immobile, just as kittens do when they're picked by their mothers. He stays that way until he's let go, time enough to get a temp reading. The main thing is be sure that Molly is drinking enough water, as a URI can send them into dehydration pretty quickly....See MoreDog with chronic cough
Comments (11)All of these smart and concerned folks are correct. You must see a vet and investigate. Our dog, rescued from a pound at 9 months, also had a chronic cough. Not kennel cough, not heart worm, not collapsed trachea....they trach-tubed him, biopsied his lungs, we did everything, and ruled out many things. The only thing left was, maybe, asthma. In a cosmic stroke of fate that put this dog in our hands, I myself have asthma. Our vet said it is possible to use a special doggy inhaler, though his office personnel said they knew few owners who can successfully train the dog to use the inhaler. Well, I'm here to say that it can be done. Our Australian Heeler, the most squirrelly, vocal, athletically slippery guy, learned to look forward to his daily inhaler. Voila! Almost never coughs now. my point is though, there are too many possibilities, most quite fixable with veterinary help, that could be causing the problem. He deserves your help. Good luck, I bet he can be helped....See Morecyn427 (z. 7, N. VA)
