I can believe it. I've heard of people cracking ribs from a harsh cough.

If your in pain its best to see the Dr. You may have borke something.

I'd call my internist to describe the pain and ask if he needs to see me. He might also prescribe additional treatment like heat or cold. Do you think it's muscular pain? Dull? Sharp? Might you have dislocated something?

It hurts when I take a deep breath. I made an appointment with the orthopedist, next Tuesday was the soonest I could get in. I don't want to go to the internist because he will just refer me.

My sis caused a hernia from coughing.

It's easy to put your back out when sneezing. My chiro says to brace your back against a wall or door to help support yourself. Sneezes are very traumatic to your body. DH put himself on the floor sneezing, spent a week getting adjustments until his back would stay in place and quit pinching a nerve. He was down instantly.

Be careful, and hopefully you can get in sooner. Maybe you can ask to be called in case of a cancellation.

Having had back issues for many years I now realize that a sneeze or any motion isn't the actual cause of a muscle problem. It's wear and tear on that muscle for many years that makes it just tug too hard and swell. The pain is from the nerve being compressed and more intense pain when you move a certain way,OUCHIE!! Last week I fell backwards down 3 cement stairs on to a tarmac parking lot. I have pain up and down my spine and surrounding muscles. Dr. said "You've torn the muscles and they will take a long time to heal" I'm on Tramadol for pain, naproxin for reducing inflammation and flexeril for spasms.
The fall is actually decorating related. I am helping my sister to redo her living room. We went out and bought a rug, two long rods for her french doors and drapery. When we got back it was snowing and wet out so I took the two rods in boxes and put them over my shoulder and held a Dunkies tray with two hot coffees in the other one. When I put my foot on the top step the rods shifted downwards in the boxes and pulled me off balance. The moral is decorating can be dangerous.
I'm sure your physician will help you but, in the meantime, I suggest taking Aleve for the inflammation, use ice for 20 minutes and then heat 4xs a day. I'm sorry you're having this pain. I can relate!!! Take care.

What a horrible fall. Did you hit your head as well? I'm so sorry and hope the recovery is smooth and fast.

I had a friend who cracked a rib from coughing. She was pregnant at the time and had to deliver with the cracked rib. Very painful. It wouldn't hurt to have it checked out.

On my parents 50th anniiversary in 1995 I had a really bad stomach flu all day. I was vomiting really hard. I didnt think I would be able to go to their party then were having. I started feeling better in the afternoon so I went and all the while I felt like I couldnt get enough oxygen in my lungs. I kept taking deep breaths and it didnt help. I was telling my sister-in-iaw about it. She told me I had a rib out of place from vomitting so hard. I went to a chiropractor and she had been right.The chiropractor put it in place. After it happens to you once it happens easier. It has happened to me a few times since. People tell me I hold in my sneezes, which I dont think I do. Now that you said this I am thinking that maybe that is how I put mine out again. I would probably have a chiropractor check it out if I was you.

Know a guy who tried to hold in a sneeze & tore his retina; I only found out because I asked if he'd had cateract surgery...as he was wearing the eye patch...

An older lady who worked in the office years ago advised never to really "blow" your nose full force To do one side at a time.

A friend told me while visiting today that her friend had broken a rib at the tinme of a hard sneeze.

By the time I made the doctor's appointment, it was starting to get better. He didn't know what it was, even after an x-ray. Oh well, one of those things.

Follow up, trip to E.r. as pain got worse, was put on cyclobenzaprine and back to the e.r. two days later with purple feet and hands and a rash all over. The itch was horrible. Put on prednisone as my throat was closing and tongue swelling. On the 3rd day of the pred, I woke up and felt funny, looked in the mirror and Miss Piggy with no eyes and a bright big pink face was looking at me. back to e.r allergic to prednisone. gave me a an epi-pen in case any thing else crops up I'm to jab it in my thigh and come back to the e.r. This has been 14 days or the most intense itching, we've bought every product. I resorted to putting my feet in boiling water and then in ice which would help for two hours. Did this for 24 hours straight and now the itch is gone. I don't know who I'll see in the mirror tomorrow lol. It's been a trip and all because of the damn curtain rods.

I once had a bad cough and felt sharp pain in my ribs. It still hurt after the cough/cold was gone. Went to doctor, who said I had a torn diaphragm muscle. It cured itself, but took a long time.

Yaya, what a bad deal! I'm so sorry and hope you get better from now on. You expect to be injured in a fall, of course, but this has turned into just too much! What misery, all that itching.

Jannie, I think it was something like a torn muscle or cartilage, or even a fractured rib. Like your case, this will take a while, maybe months before I don't feel it anymore.

Doc did give me a prescription for a steroid, Medrol. It's sticking on my bulletin board. I doubt I'll use it.

I'm having a weird sneezing issue and I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar...

I'm currently battling a really bad cold. I noticed yesterday that when I would sneeze, immediately afterward it felt like I was being stabbed with thousands of hot needles around my neck, shoulders and arms. The pain is severe and only lasts a few seconds before it goes away. Sometimes this happens when I cough really hard too. I often see stars and it's worse when I'm sitting down.

When I woke up this morning, my back and shoulder muscles were really sore, like the feeling after you use muscles you haven't used in a while.

I just sneezed while writing this and the pain almost knocked me over but it disappears so quickly. And now my neck muscles are sore. My only thought is that since I'm sick, the coughing/sneezing is more powerful now and I must be hitting some sort of nerve? Would that cause almost immediate muscle soreness?

I'm 28 with perfect blood pressure so I don't think it's related to that. Other than this cold, I'm completely healthy.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? I went to the dr last night and mentioned it but he didn't really say anything about it. Thanks!

Funny I should read this, just yesterday I sneezed 3 times one right after the other and right after that, my chest felt really tight and almost felt like I was having an Asthma attack but my chest and back hurt too...after a couple hours the chest pain stopped then I realized the pain was all radiating from a muscle between my shoulder blades in my back. UGH! Now today the muscle is sore as a boil!
