Hi Sallybeth (by the way, my sister is Nancy Beth), We have just finished remodeling our master bath, kid's bath & redone the counter tops & backspash in the kitchen. Yes it's been almost a year of fun, fun, fun. We used white iridescent mosaic tile for the backsplash in the kitchen & love it. (We have black granite counters that have a hint of iridescent minerals in them, our cabinets are white) It's very neutral, yet isn't at all bland or boring like plain white subway type tile. The iridescent white has hints of pink, gray, blue, lavender, very subtle, depends on what's nearby or the lighting. Since you are planning on using your bath for both a master & then your girls, do the expensive, long lasting stuff as neutral (not boring) as possible. You can always add color & fashion through towels, bath mats or rugs, paint,etc. that can dramatically change the look & feel without costing a lot of money to redo or having your husband feel like he's in the girl's restoom. I would've used the mosaic in our bathroom too, but my husband didn't think he would like glass mosaic tile at all, he's very hesitant to try anything new. (He would've been happy updating our '60's bathroom to the '80's.) Go to several mosaic tile websites & you can see samples. There is one where you can pick out custom sample colors of tiles, grout, etc. & click to see what it would look like. Pretty pricy, but once you have a basic idea, you can always shop around for the best price. I found our mosaic tile online & sent for samples,it's hard to tell the real colors online, then our contractor ordered it so we would get the contractor discount. In our bathrooms, we have dark cabinets with granite countertops that are white with gray, black, hints of brown & silver. I can't figure out how to attach a photo of our bathroom which shows how this looks, this is the first time I have used this site. LeslieM56

I can't say that you're getting good advice on the sink issue until you answer another question or two...do you have a "real" master bath with two sinks? And did you cap off the plumbing but leave it accessable in your daughters bath? If you answered yes to both, leave the long counter. You don't have to plan for a family that does not live in your home and two sinks in a one person bathroom is rediculous (I've had it...it's awful). IF you capped off you can advertise it's ready for two sinks when you sell if you want, but don't cut a hole without knowing if it's necessary. If you don't have a real master bath you've probably made a mistake giving it to your daughter and you should plan on making a real one when you move...but again, why do it now? It's an easy fix later. Someone mentioned whispy or gauzie for the window. IMO it's absolutely necessary. If you put in a bamboo shade you've added some texture but it's still a hard texture and your bath is far too high on hard textures and way way low on soft textures and the beach is all about softness. White for your towels and mats...keep it easy and soft (again because it's missing) go fluffy on those mats...fun and fluffy. I wish I had a pic but in my condo appt I went with a color very near your color and loved it. One thing I did to soften the big mirror was to use a bunch of picture frames on the mirror painted in a shabby chic type of white. (does that make sense?) They were all cheap picture frames, but mostly bulky frames, with the pics removed and then I velcroed (double stick velcro in white) the frames to the mirror, with a big one over the sink and the balance scattered around. You'd be amazed how the harsh lines of the wall mirror disapear in the debth of the framed pieces. I am with most in that I don't like the lights, but their placement isn't the issue, it's the harshness of the fixtures themselves...but that's an easy fix if you soften up the rest of the room with texture. Fluffy white mats, towels, white frames on the mirror, a soft breezy gauzy window covering (which could be done over a grass cloth shade if you want more privacy) and some lovely counter accessories (candles and sand, grasses etc) would really make the room sing, and fix all of your issues (IMO) I'd consider doing the gauzy covering by tacking the gauze to a whispy piece of thin beach wood for the curtain rod, and then hot glue sea shells or sand dollars or star fish every five or six inches as if they were holding up the gauze... A collection of antique perfume spritzers would be a lovely accessory to bridge your tween into teen.

Do you like this mirror? I have an oval one. These are expensive, but hand made in Vermont at Hubbarton Forge. They have lovely lights too. It goes well with my chrome faucets as it is all cool in under tones. Are these boys in this room or both girls and boys? I think it might be too heavy for a girls bathroom. These are free hanging mirrors too. If your kids are rambunctious, I wouldn't use them cause they could get pulled off the wall.

To answer questions, I was able to add more pictures. Here is where the chandelier will hang. It is centered in the room. This is looking into the bath from center entry between closets on left and right. The room is roughly 20ft left to right, with shower and my vanity at opposite ends, and 12 ft from the entry to the back wall alcove where the tub will sit. The blue tape is stuck to the mount where the light will hang, and is 36" long just to see proportions. My husband standing under it is still a few feet from his head (he is 6'3"). Ceilings are all sots of height as you can tell but roughly 10-12' max. The chandelier above is L29w29xH32.5. Or they have a smaller one 25x25x28. Which size?? Oh and I don't have pic of the vanity as they are covered. But the suggested pics above of dark vanities is spot on color. My larger vanity is to the right here buried under the ladder etc.!
