Are "Clear Shield" and "Starphire" worth it for glass shower door?

I just had my master shower measured for a glass door and there are 2 upcharge costs we are considering. The first is a $240 upcharge to use Starphire Glass, so that it's completely clear (no green edges). The second is a $195 upcharge for 'Clear Shield' http://blusshowerdoor.com/clear-shield/3268810 What do you guys think?

The upcharge for the starphire is worth it, IMO. If you have chosen beautiful tile for the shower, you want the color to show true. As for clear shield…a waste of money. I followed all the directions and the shield still showed water stains..no, actually like pitting.

I paid for something on my door to keep it water spot free and have received no benefit. I use a DIY spray every shower and use a squeegee religiously.

He is incorrect. PPG Showerguard is called "Ultra White" which is the crystal clear Showerguard for Low Iron or Starphire Glass. He may be referring to an aftermarket product as he may have already ordered the glass and does not want to eat it but he is 100% wrong on his statement.

Starphire is a brand name for Low Iron (PPG now Vitro). The fact that a dealer is going to charge you one price for low iron and another for the same thing but the Starphire brand would make me quite skeptical. As far as whether Low Iron is a benefit, that is a personal opinion, but the tile will definitely pick up the green hue in regular glass over low iron.

Another ShowerGuard user here. We had it in our glass shower doors of our last house. We remodeled and only used it about 4 years before we moved but zero issues. We did squeegee after showers. I didn't use any other cleaner on it. Just squeegee and maybe wipe with a towel. I would do it again.

From the Q & A section at your link: DreamLine stock products are regular glass, not low iron glass. The greenish tint inherent in glass is most noticeable at the edges of the panels. FYI, the edge color of low iron glass, especially in large panels, will still be green. Both are worth it! Starphire glass with its lower iron content will give you a clearer, more true view of your shower. I have had very good results with Clear Shield. After seeing the results when one of my clients decided to pass on using it, I think it is absolutely a good idea. From my experience, it may not keep all the water stains away, but it will definitely cut down on them. I hope that helps. Good luck on your project!

you can always use Rainx on your doors. repels the water stains. Apply it to clean doors every 3 weeks or so. works on glass tiles too.

We decided not to do the Starphire glass due to budget choices and I was pleasantly surprised that our glass/tile combo looks really nice, with minimal green effect, especially when light inside the shower is on. We used a light/medium gray large format tile. I know from a prior shower project that you'll see the green tint more with white tile.

I would recommend only the Showerguard, none of the other products is as good in my opinion.
