Please help us pull together the decor of our master bedroom
Comments (36)Ontario mom, I am posting pictures of our "blue room" that isn't actually painted blue. I think that the blue of Scandinavian Christmas plates looks best on a color other than blue. The white Holly Kay linked to, or something similar, would be beautiful for pine furniture and floors. This is a sort of montage of photos of the room. I have about 100 plates and cannot display them all, but they were the starting point for the room. It was already painted this gold color. I used other blue and white pieces i already owned (urns, vases, Foo dogs, etc) in this room as well. We purchase the oil of children on the beach and I framed it myself in the plein air style. Sorry for the horrible iPhone photos....this shows the plates above the headboard. We used DS2's childhood furniture (armoire and dark pine single size sleigh bed ). We recently put rustic white oak floors in the room and I added this blue and taupe-y gray rug: Closer of plates above headboard (these are Norwegian) and other blue and white stuff on shelf in bed alcove: In the corner is a display thing bought at Ballard Back Room in Atlanta (their discount place). They called it a bookcase but it is perfect for displaying plates in a corner! This is an interesting side table my mother gave me for my birthday about seven years ago. It is a mosaic top made up of broken pieces of blue and white china. On it is a lamp that was in my childhood room...a little too "good" for the rest of the room, but I wanted to use what I had. The bedding is a discontinued Ralph Lauren pattern I found on ebay. They incorporate shades of navy, royal and light blue, which is a perfect foil for the plates. I use the white matellasse cover on the bed with the comforter folded up at the foot. Hope these photos help you envision a blue and white room :-)...See MorePlease help us choose bedroom wall color - exposed brick!
Comments (16)One thing I am LOVING about the Lenox Tan is that there is NO undertone! I was so worried about a green or red undertone ,but there is NONE. And yet, the color changes dramatically as the light changes, yet every version is gorgeous. It moves from a cooler, soft tan (first thing in the morning) and then starts warming up and emitting a golden glow; sometimes it's a burnt light brown (read the thread on my LR where I liken it to the Crayon color from when I was a kid, Burnt Sienna). In the late afternoon and evening, it's like being wrapped in caramel, and at night it's just luxurious and romantic and gorgeous. It is as near a perfect color as I've seen. Of course, that is subjective! I'd call it a stunning neutral with a lot of personality..if that makes any sense. It doesn't overpower a room, but it compliments everything, esp. those natural, rustic elements, which is why I think it would look gorgeous in your BR. Btw, I'm also in MA. The thread is called "Painting LR is done!". First pic of my LR is the least representative of the color. Further down the thread I put the Web pic that inspired me to go with Lenox Tan. It's very handsome and sophisticated, as you shall see if you look at the thread....See MoreMaster Bedroom Refresh- Please help with bedding advice!
Comments (15)Back with an update! We were able to move our nightstands back into the room. I was also able to start putting together blue & white bedding to see how it would look, as I already had some components on hand and I was able to scoop up a quilt the other day that I really liked the texture and colors of. You can also see the night stands and how they look with the bed. We had to top them with grey in order to cover up some damage to the tops as we were repainting them. The other option was to sand and re-stain them, and we were trying to avoid that. So far, I'm liking how the blue & white is coming together. In order to complete the look, I am thinking that a blue comforter and blue shams with some sort of textural look would be a great final touch, along with a few new throw pillows to pull it together on the bed. The coverlet in the last picture is a very light one that I had in storage that I just put there temporarily to visualize a blue comforter until I can settle on one. I was also thinking of switching out the sheets to a pale aqua or grey to add interest to the bed. Future plans also include changing out the lamps or repainting the bases antique gold or something to bring some warmth and such to the room.. but I'd like to get the bed figured out first! :) PS we got the bed this past weekend, and I LOVE it! It was a great buy! Currently, I am going between several shades of blue, etc. for the comforter and shams. I am going between this navy chenille set Or one of these pin tucked style comforters in either the bright blue or the navy or even a light blue or, lastly, this "blue" (that's what the description says, I'm not sure if it is blue, but we will see!!!) chenille comforter I really love the look of the navy chenille in the picture, but I'm worried about it looking dark in the room but then at the same time, all of the furniture will be white, etc... soooo?? Next step will be window treatments... which I need to figure out as well... but I'd like to get the bed figured out first! Any thoughts? I've kind of pulled this color palette together.. so I'm going to try to pull it all together with this. This particular artist even sells throw pillows of this painting... so that's a thought. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks!...See Moreis pink color OK for the master bedroom pink color for master bedroom
Comments (25)Yes, I think pink is a beautiful color for a master bedroom! The trick is picking the right pink and then balancing it with other elements that are not overly feminine. I love pink and brown together, or black. When choosing a grownup ink go to the brown section in your color deck. As you move up to the lighter colors you will see what I refer to as dirty pinks. These are softer, more pleasing pinks that men can love....See MoreJudyG Designs
