HELP! So so so Much wrong here
Comments (4)i dryed up the wood and I guess I shouldn't of becuase he wont do anything now. Which brings me to my next question Isn't that a Risk of mold? It's a risk of mold IF it stays damp for a while. If the leak isn't happening, and the area stays dry, there's no risk of mold. If the leak happens again, call him back (and leave the puddle on the floor). **you might post over at the Plumbing forum (see "Other Forums" link at the top of the main page) and see if anyone can suggest any sort of tape or something you could wrap around the outside that would stop the leak. the BIGGEST issue w/ the leak is that it will damage the cabinet--and has already. You don't want them to be on your case bcs you didn't get it fixed before damage occurred (seems to me thats a tenant's responsibility, to alert management when repairs are needed so management can maintain the value of their property). I might call again, and say, "look, I found damp spots again, and obviously there is a leak ,because of damage. I don't want YOUR STUFF to get further ruined; don't you want to fix it? If you wont' come and just tighten or redo all the connections under the sink, then I want you to sign a waiver that says I'm not responsible for any water damage under the sink." Rusty radiators won't hurt you; I've never read anything about dangers of inhaling iron--I don't think it creates fumes anyway--feel free to use them. If they look bad, ask management to come and scrape and paint them. As for the carpet, sure you can ask. But if your rent is lower than in the other units, they may tell you that new carpet will cost you a higher rent. I would just ask them--point out that you're paying the market rate, and your carpets are disgusting; their agent acknowledged this at the beginning (though you accepted those carpets as is, and they may say, that's the contract) But I don't think any of those things are particular health hazards. Maybe your best bet is to start looking at other apartments. See what you can get elsewhere for the same money you are spending now. If it's better (even if it's just in better condition), that gives you a bargaining tool. You can either just move when your lease is up, or threaten to do so as a tool to get them to make your place look nice. They'd have to change that carpet for a new tenant anyway, plus they might have some down-time between tenants....See MoreWhy do you love my hubby (wife) or SO so much?
Comments (25)I'm in my mid-40's and only married 3 years. I met DH when I was 40. I like to tell him that if I had to wait this long for him, he was worth it! 1.We match up very well personality wise (though he is introverted and I am extroverted--like islandgal said we balance each other out). 2. We have similar modest family backgrounds, and we both put ourselves through graduate/professional school, so when we met it was almost like we'd known each other. 3. We have similar interests in music and love to go to live music events together. 4. LOL, he was right when he said white for the paneling in the kitchen without realizing there are literally 100 shades of white. He also insisted on granite slab for the countertops. 5. He's not handy, but he at least knows that. We are happy to call professionals for things beyond our capabilities, which is pretty much anything beyond painting. He never had pets and took on me with three cats after we got married. He was at my side when we had to put one down a couple of weeks ago due to kidney failure. He truly loves me for who I am. He likes a woman with curves. Enough said....See MoreFrench polishing furniture
Comments (2)There is a reason why French polishers charge a fortune, and this is it. A very difficult and time consuming process to master. Cabinet finishing and polishing apprentices require years to get this right in the U.K. There are many different colors of shellac. Knowing which one to use and achieving the deep mirror like finish requires the building up of many many PERFECTLY applied coats. Personally, I think this is not one for DIY, especially with a valuable antique as your guinea pig. Just my opinion....See MorePolished granite + marble = too much? Laminated edge?
Comments (8)Hi crzy, You have a really similar color scheme to what we are going with, minus the glaze. We are also doing cream cabinets with a Calcutta gold backsplash. All the soapstones I looked at (and the selection was very limited in my area) were too busy and too green. I also *thought* I had settled on Jet Mist honed granite, (so pretty!) but when I saw it in person, it was too busy with the marble. Also, the gray shade was too "cool" with the warm cream paint and marble. To my surprise, what I finally settled on is Zodiaq quartz in Mystic Black. It is not too shiny, too dull, or too busy. It doesn't have the plastic-y look and feel that some of the other solid surfaces can have. It doesn't show fingerprints or water marks. It is kind of a dark charcoal color. I know there are some beautiful BLACKER soapstones out there, but they were not available in my area. I think in a smaller kitchen, the 2cm looks really nice--maybe even better than the chunkier 3cm if you don't really have any long runs. I know all about the addiction--I started having wrist and neck problems from all the scrolling and clicking hours. Even now, when everything is pretty much settled, I don't want to miss a good tip I could incorporate, so I check every day! Happy planning!...See MoreUser
