My guess is the upholstered coffee table will be this last decor era's outstanding contribution to interior design. Our kids have had one, in the predominant style--large rectangle, "leather" (but good quality) covered, with an openwork wood shelf below--and its function is beyond everything. This is the center of the home, the kitchen island only a close runnerup. :) I disagree that they can't be "styled," even if there are limitations. Porcelain shore bird collection problematic, but my DIL always has a large (ubiquitous, useful, but attractive) tray on it done up for the season. A basket on the shelf below holds the remotes and other visual clutter. I did have a personal happy moment when I realized that they need not be stiff, stained wood with black leather upholstery. A piece of furniture of the appropriate height in any style can be upholstered and painted, stenciled, gilded, waxed, or whatever. (My own future project here.)

Trunks as coffee tables are called toe-smashers in my house. I've gone through three. :-) There's gotta be at least a little bit of room underneath for the toes to go. While storage is a nice idea I also found it a PITA since if I wanted to get something from the trunk I had to clear everything off the surface to open it. I would rather have drawers or even a lower shelf I could put flat baskets on (maybe those tailored leather baskets/deep trays?). I rather like something along the lines of the Map Table from Pottery Barn in a satin black painted finish, if you want to bring some of the black from the bar area over here - it's severe enough to play well with Mission furniture without being matchy-matchy at all: I don't think the ottoman-with-tray-for-"stuff" routine is a good idea for the sports-and-beer crowd. It's just asking for something to get tipped over. As for the glass rings, we have not had problems with tables and nightstands with good quality finishes - although I have my DH trained pretty well, there are a couple of my goonier friends who will set a sweating glass down on a table right next to the coaster. We put our feet up on the coffee table too (barbarians! LOL)... this is why I bought an old table with the top wrapped in old copper sheeting, because the more it gets bashed up the better it looks! ;-) However, if this is expected to be a major, major problem, a tile-topped table is right in line with the Mission flavor of the furniture. This one is quite pricey but it gets the general point across very well:

Put just the one above the TV for now. That might work with just one piece because it looks like the same width as the TV, which is a good thing :) When your console comes in and you hang the art, we can experiment with having a vase at one end to see how it looks. You aren't restricted to just wall art. You just don't want to get too busy on the wall and console. So some of this will be trial and error to get the right look. As to the love seat: it does need to move to the left if it stays in the room. If you had a smaller end table there you could probably pick up 6 to 10 inches. If both end tables were smaller then you could move the sofa down too and pick up more room on the love seat wall. Are you keeping the chair in the room? It would be ideal if you could keep the sofa on the long wall and the chair on the wall where the love seat is now and find another place in your home for the love seat. But I understand if that isn't in your plan.

I really Ike the colors and patterns that you have in the space. It is not so easy to combine patterns the way you have done. You seem to have a natural flair for this. I had also thought of a solid ottoman in an orange, as being an interesting possibility. i like the overstock piece, also.
