'Splain me' about streaming movies
Comments (30)I'm biting the bullet and looking for a new receiver with at least six HDMI 'ports'. I don't think we will be 'streaming' anything unless the offerings improve for our 'demographic'. LOL Today AT&T emailed me, touting their "U-Verse" -- which sounds like it would replace the DirecTV HD-DVR they already provide us, bundled with landline and internet. The promo seems aimed at people who need 24/7 'connectivity' via hand helds...or music. I doubt they have any wider selection movies on offer than what I saw on Amazon and Netflix. Any DVD's we get from the library that are longer than a movie have two-week check-outs. We're in town a couple times a week anyway, so detouring a block to the library is easy. We still sometimes check out 'real' books, too. LOL...See MoreClassic, super-famous movies you still haven't seen.........
Comments (24)Here is my hit list. These came for a recent set of films I reviewed for a private group. Sahara - A Clive Cussler Adventure tale. A Night as the Museum - Fantasy. Museum artifacts come alive after the museum closes for the night and shocks the newly hired watchman. National Teasure Adventure, Exploration, highy fictional WALL-E A cutsey robot roams a ruined earth and is trying to tidy up the place. He makes it his full time job, but then it gets very dangerous for him to be out of his abode. Journey to the Center of the Earth. Based on a book by the same name and used as a platform to make a digitized movie where the director can go beyond conventional special effects. The Secret Life of the Bees Interpersonal interplay of a young girl who finds a houseful of caring Black women after she runs away from a very terrible home situation. UP - a rollicking cartoon film about a codgedy old man who has lost his wife and nearly lost the will to live when he suddently decides to kick civilization in the rear and make the dream trip that he and his wife had discussed and said someday we'll go. It's one of the better movies of this group. Ed Azner does his voice - a perfect match. Avatar Science fiction totally digitized. A block buster effort. It does have scenes where violence is directed toward the planet and its hidden inhabitants, but these scenes are necessary to tell the story. Toy Story 3 Like Toy Story 1 and 2, except Andy has aged is going off to college. The toys are headed for the storage bin and are in danger of being tossed out. Robots Fictional robot characters and their lives. They have atonishingly human traits and some are not so good. The director uses the characters as a canvas to play out the interaction of these traits....See MoreDo you like old movies?
Comments (23)I LOVE old movies and always have. My mom started me on them when I was little. We watched every musical on TV and then I learned to love everything. I think I could type all night the names of movies I love. Doris Day and Gene Kelly are my favorites and think I've seen them all. I just watched "Young at Heart" the other day. Love Spencer Tracey and Katherine Hepburn. Merna Loy was lovely. I love everyone of the movies mentioned by Janie__Ga but a few others would be; Meet me in St. Louis Gentleman's Agreement Every "Little Woman" made Adam's Rib Camile (that goes WAY back) All About Eve Mame Gypsy To Kill a Mockingbird Our Town Key Largo Love With a Proper Stranger Splendar in the grass and on and on and on........See MoreFavorite Streaming Device?
Comments (28)Thank you all! Your responses made my decision easy. I just purchased the Roku from BB. The sales person failed to mention the HDMI cable was not included, so I cannot yet report on the ease of set-up. I had no idea BluRay doubled as a media streaming device. I'll keep that in mind if we use this enough to get another television, or upgrade the current TV. We only have one small television in the house, so I appreciate everyone's expert advice!...See MoreFunkyart
