Pet friendly furniture advice needed
Comments (1)I'm looking at sunbrella indoor fabric upholstery. We have 2 spoiled dogs and I want something that vacuums easily. Pet hair tends to "weave" itself into most fabrics and I hear sunbrella is better at preventing that than most fabrics. We have a stray cat in our neighborhood which I suspect sleeps on our outdoor furniture. This fabric cleans up really easy....See Morepets and leather furniture
Comments (21)For me, the plus of leather is the ease in which you can wipe off dirt/hair, but even one scratch really stands out if it's a smooth/sleek/shinny surface (aka-roche bobois). My cats have ruined ours by just running across it, not from scratching it. a rough distressed leather would probably be more forgiving (cindy and mocha's looks perfect for that). I much prefer fabric. I like a textured durable fabric that can be cleaned and will hide dirt. for me, unless the cat makes a hole, fabric is sooo much more forgiving. if there are some snags the threads can be cut. but, nothing is perfect. most importantly, for all of us who have pets, it's definitely best to embrace imperfection and realize it's only stuff. for most of us, we would rather have some flaws in our homes instead of surgically altering our pets with the goal of perfect belonging. Maybe we can make some posts about creative ideas to hide the damage. Faux fur throws go a long way and look great too! A long time ago I bought a denim sofa so when my cats used it as a scratching post, I could use cute patches as if it were jeans....See MoreDogs and leather furniture - more questions!
Comments (11)I love leather but disagree with annathome about its needing so much maintenance! We have some Bradington-Young leather furniture, almost 7 years old now, and I think it got the whole leather-cleaner-and-conditioner routine a couple of times a year for the first few years and after that nada. Still looks good, the leather's not dry or cracking. We too chose a semi-distressed leather with a somewhat variegated color because of a cat and dog with "turbo growth" nails and lots of hair, and two clumsy humans with a propensity for spills. Thankfully our salesperson encouraged us to scratch and dig at the leather samples with fingernails, keys, etc. (For those in eastern MA, NH, and southern ME, Currier's Leather in Hampton Falls, NH is worth the trip.) I wish we'd been able to afford leather for the Flexsteel sectional we recently purchased, but it would have sent it a gazillion miles out of my budget. (As it was it was kind of "yikes!") We looked at a sort of suede-ish stain-resistant synthetic material they offered (I think it might have been the same fabric fussy_chicken was looking at, because it had a leather-grain-like finish embossed on it) but I thought it looked VERY fake, and I've developed a serious dislike for regular microfiber despite its practicality (I'll grant that the hair does just wipe off) because of the streaks and "butt prints". I picked a firm, tightly-woven fabric that is sort of like chenille but less plushy, and so far it isn't presenting any problems with holding onto my long-haired, double-coated dog's hair, even in the corner that the dog has decided is his. I got permission from the salesperson to rub my fabric samples all over the dog, who was blowing coat at the time and thus dropping downy fluff by the handful. ;-) (I cleaned them off before returning them!) Cindy, that picture of Ginger always makes me chuckle....See MoreWhat color pillows can I use with brown leather furniture and mahogany
Comments (19)Go for color/texture/pattern that enhances the style of your room. If modern, maybe cream or tan with a woven or nubby texture. Is there any art, rugs, drapes in the room that you can pull a color from? I have brown leather with dark wood sofas and chairs in the living room. I wanted sort of a world/mid-eastern vibe (not too heavy-handed), so my pillows are a variety of fabrics/patterns that resemble oriental rugs. Actually, one of them is a kilim rug remnant. There are a variety of browns, tans, greens, greys, blues, red, yellow, white and orange. Maybe pick one patterned pillow and some plain ones that compliment it....See MoreiCustomSofa
